Indeed, I’m on a Public Beta, if they’re using the same GPortal servers as Official, it sure is a test of status quo.
When people post stuff like that I have to wonder if they have memory issues.
As I’ve said after playing this on the beta servers this doesn’t even crack my top ten worst updates.
Tell me you haven’t been on the beta servers with out saying you haven’t been on the beta server.
I’m still cooking mats and farming. Right now is my sandstone maze, but not near enough thralls. Going to run it with a small crew once the rest is ready. But running out of time and I don’t do purges on live, can’t spare the thralls.
First couple weeks it wasn’t bad.
and beta servers have a much smaller and less demanding database if compared with busy officials .
Where do I find the data on this?
well , its just observation, busy officials has more deployed thralls, more bases, more people moving around at the same time in different parts of the map, it taxes the server, and of course, the more assets deplayables and build pieces it adds up to the server itself, if people are close and arround it,
also official servers has all the data and inventory of every single character that has created a toon, in that official server, and there should be way more than a server that most people do not play on in a regular basis.
I agree about the contents of an Official, but this Beta behaves like an empty/dead server, which it essentially is. The things I’m seeing are exactly as the Officials.
Up until I started to do things like Al-Merayah, a bar and now purges.
I was a participant in an Official levels 5, 6 and 7 purges. Not the same investment or analysis at the time. Definitely worse on the Official. Seeing it this way just opens my eyes about how bad it truly is.
Performance and bugs become normal, you ignore them or accept them. I did the same.
i have that tendency of fighting them , not a guy who ignore or accept a bug, and i am quite consistent with it.
i just cant undertstand why funcom does not push gportal for an upgrade to the most active official servers.
So, i’ve done some fiddling with lvl 6-10 purges myself. For my last purge location i have built a base under an overhanging rock to protect against meteor showers. I’ve noticed that tucked away behind the rocks i could not get a single purge to trigger even with 45 mins of trying.
After moving it out however from behind the rock formation (both locations equally well accessible) i am able to call in a purge 100% of the time so far.
It seems like line of sight may play a big role in the whole scouting/triggering process. I have even made it a lot harder to reach my treasurer now and it still triggers 100% of the time.
Mind you, structures don’t seem to influence it, other than the purge needing a path. But if i literally move my treasurer 3 foundations to the side, to be tucked behind rocks suddenly it becomes impossible to get a purge to spawn.
So, not closer to where the purge spawns consistently but just moved horizontally a tiny bit, if looking right at the spawn area.
In its current location the overhanging rock still protects the treasurer from meteors, as well.
It may be a coincidence, but i think it is quite likely line of sight is a factor, and the map itself (the mesh, maybe?) can get in the way of that.
Not just most active, all of them. Servers wax and wane in population and there’s many reasons for that.
There’s another thread where someone states that once they configured their server properly then they don’t experience the majority of the performance bugs many do on Official and many privates.
I was very much aware of the bugs I’ve reported as pre-existing, I lived with it. It’s not our job, I don’t expect everyone to report if they see them… but aside from complaining “there’s bugs!”, actually submitting reports might do something more about them? It’s still not ok, not what is expected and it SHOULD NOT take multiple bug reports to see action - but they have also stated that the more reports that are filed on one specific bug, basically the more it will be “seen”? I don’t remember the wording. I still can’t find that post by Community. It was shocking and insulting to insinuate that there’s more than just 1 bug report required.
That ANYONE would take the time to notice, repro, come here, use their ■■■■■■ bug report template is enormous. Then just to see a “report received” and years later it still being a problem is incredible. This exercise of reporting bugs has been a labour of love and I’m not looking for attention here, I JUST WANT THE GAME TO BE GOOD.
I’ve considered this as well, we’re passed the days of purges not spawning at all at least I remember a clan mate force quitting in the flat area between Muriela’s Hope and South Aqua frustrated beyond all hell that it wouldn’t spawn. Funny now, not back then.
I’m in Watcher of the Passage and my coffer is on the pagoda there, perfect pathing up the steps and through. For whatever reason the 6th decided that spawning past the bridge towards the ob was correct and this is where the NPCs couldn’t path
Although there is no concrete data on this, several private server admins have, in the past, posted their observations about the server database size. From what I remember, the gist is that the longer the server runs and the more people play on it, the gnarlier the state of the database and the worse its impact on the server performance
I confess I’m too lazy to go hunting for those posts, but we can ping @Taemien and @SirBowen, and see if they’re willing to recap.
Indeed, as usual I guess. I wish Funcom would speak more on this. Everything is “read between the lines” and second hand information
If they simply said “this is what we offer, that’s it and this is why” I suppose I could swallow it; it would shut down speculation.
It’s been said before and I agree to an extent as Officials are part of the options available: Officials on most games are a player’s first glimpse into multiplayer.
Unless they come to the forums or Reddit and search there’s little information available to them to make an informed choice.
I can only imagine with the things I’ve been experiencing how bad it’s going to be once it hits live - not just for Officials, server management on privates…
i do remember reading something about those lines in the past.
but i think its logical to assume that a database that ran for 6+ years, and being a busy public (official) server will have more data , and be much larger than a private one (unless it is highly popular and old. )
and yes i think performance wise , the old official might be needing more resources than one that is (far less active, such as testlive.
This is a thrall wandering mitigation question.
If you build a low level fence on fence foundation perimeter around your base, will it keep your crafters within the base?
Yes, as long as there isn’t anything outside of that they’d consider “needs”.
While their needs are supposed to be only: chair, bed and campfire, they will also go to a thrall pot, well and profession benches. So make sure everything is inside of your perimeter.
horrible!
Do thrall pots now work if I fill them then?
Yes but they’re missing the list of thralls eating from it.
