So I’ve made one post previously about my dislike of this patch, and some of those issues have been addressed by the developers. However the most important three issues seem to be falling through the floor (which was addressed but not fixed in the last hotfix), people abusing the purges to raid on pve which doesn’t seem to be too far fetched given the mechanic but my biggest bug bear appears to be the server crashes at some sort of CPU limit.
Now I understand with the falling through the ground that will be addressed and fixed, I’d like to think that exploiters/pve explotiation and unintended raiding mechanics will also be fixed/cheaters banned at some point (possible wishful thinking). That being said there seems to be no recognition from the many reddit and funcom forum posts that have mentioned that their purges are bringing down multiple official servers and it seems to be getting completely ignored by the developers?
I understand from speaking to community members that different styles of purges are causing different outcomes, people using simpler designs with less ai/archers/oil/gas arrows etc seem to be able to do purges fine, however anyone with a slightly more complex base and a populated server seems to be running into the same problem I have which is that regardless of what purge I do, it generally brings the whole server down. What I can say is this is definitely a new change, as my base has existed in it’s current state for a significant number of chapters of AoW and I’ve never encountered this server wide crash.
I appreciate it’s based on the server, however being that officials are crashing and this wasn’t a problem previously, it appears to be a massive downscaling change that is killing player bases and server populations as well as making the whole server ransom to a few players if they so choose. Furthermore there’s no recognition that I can see, that this is even an issue?
I appreciate the naysayers who might come and say “Just make a simple purge base” or “Server needs an upgrade” however purge is the only interesting end game mechanic beyond a certain point in the games progress, playing it how you choose is the best part, and having a patch make several players purge bases unusable and a weapon against the server seems unreasonable. And if official servers can be brought down, why would anyone’s custom server be expected to hold out any better? There seems to be a lot of people aimlessly defending funcom on what is clearly a massively negative patch that needs some serious reversions on it’s changes, most of us pay a fair bit of money towards this game because we did at some point seriously enjoy it. Can there please be some recognition of the problem and some actual intention to rectify it at some point, even if that’s several weeks or months in the future? If the devs have made a comment about this somewhere on the forum could someone direct me as I’ve tried searching and cannot find anything about it anywhere.
