Greetings!
There I was, clearing the room to get The Executioner alone, my fresh body for a couple of minutes earlier still laying on the ground, when a player came along and started killing.
I greeted, the player did not greet back. No worries, PS emotes are not that easy.
I thought that the player was going to help me kill and leave me the loot, and then I would help for the second round so they could take the loot. Like in the old days.
Little did I know…
In kind of a loot ninja way the player hit triangle so fast that The Executioners body did not have time to touch the floor.
Then the player left. They only killed a couple of skeletons, looted and left.
I did not even have time to emote them accordingly .
Is it the right way these days? Am I just a dreamer to believe that PvE is actually PvE and there is honor among exiles?
In the beginning, during EA and on, there was plenty of honor amongst Exiles. We constantly helped each other, even in PVP.
I had a purge not long ago, and two people volunteered to come help, then ended up killing and looting me.
Now I just assume the worst in people, and play accordingly.
Trust no one.
OMG
Whilst i understand ur frustration, be the better guy… Maybe he wanted it really bad … maybe he cannot kill him alone and seen u as a helping hand, and maybe he is a jerk!!!
Nomatter what the issue is,be above the situation… Even if the player is a jerk (,ofc in my opinion) u should not become one!!!
Most times its kindness that changes things around … so its ok u lost executioners loot once!!! U gonna kill him some hundred times in the long run! No harm done!!! This is how i deal with such people…
I was like what the hell are you talking about, you are lucky he didn’t kill you then and there, then I saw PVE in the last line, guess that is the punchline, its pve and people didn’t emote me .
There was a clan that was picking on us by killing us with gas bombs while we were offline (PVEc), then we would log on to find that we had died and all our stuff despawned. Now we have to log off naked and empty just to get a good nights sleep. People can be buttheads!
Oh, wow. That is a new low.
The only thing I can say about this topic is you should be the light you wish to see in other players. That doesn’t mean roll over on your belly but it means regardless of their actions, you are a force that ultimately is one that other players enjoy being around…either as opponents (PVP) or as mentors/allies (PVE).
Never settle that players point to Conan’s world as tough and kill or be killed as an excuse to be jerks. Spread the word of their trustworthiness or lack thereof and either they change (which should be our ultimate goal all around…be better than you were yesterday) or leave because they feel they are getting picked on for being jerks.
Nope.
In Age Of Meta Chasers and Speed Runners, everyone (well…most of them) all in a rush. -_-’
New? Hardly. That example I’ve seen as early as Diablo in 1997. In Diablo if you were killed by another player you wouldn’t drop loot. People used to get around this by firing enough spells or projectiles at you when you were in the midst of enemies hoping they would get the final hit. Then they’d loot what you drop and log off.
Ninja looting as the OP describes has been around since Ultima Online and Everquest, also in the 1990s. A practice that still plagues those games over 2 decades later.
In any game I play online, if loot drops are freeloot, I always suspect nearby players as potentially trying to steal it. Either in PVE or PVP. In PVP settings I always assume the worst from nearby players, especially if they are being more lowkey. So when it comes to potential loot, I try to snatch it up as quickly as possible when I engage targets.
I won’t stoop to those levels myself. Even in PVP I have a live and let live approach… Normally. Though that goes out the window obviously in the case of declared enemies. As it is with most.
Dude, when I said it was a new low, I didn’t mean “in history of all gaming”
In all these years of playing on official PVE-C servers, this is the first time I’ve ever seen someone volunteer to help with a purge only to go and intentionally kill and loot the person they were supposed to help.
And before you start thinking my experience on official servers has been sheltered, I’ve seen all sorts of toxicity, including walling people in, foundation webs to stop people from building, paving over Shattered Springs (and similar areas) with sandstone, walling off the newbie spawns, people building swastika-shaped buildings, PVP rejects camping Siptah vaults to kill people during loading screen transition, griefers putting pet turtles down in a middle of someone else’s unfinished build, purge pulling, surge stealing, edgelords running around screaming bullshіt into their microphones, trolls spewing all sorts of nasty crap in global chat, and so much more.
So yeah, in light of that, I’m kinda surprised I’ve never seen it before, but there it is. The first time.
…although, to be precise, I didn’t see it. I heard it from a trusted source, i.e. JJ
It’s pretty common on PVP. Never trust anyone and assume there is always a new way for someone to trick you.
Then again, I’ve also helped people getting purged when I was just passing by. You get mixed responses from complete silence to “HERE IS LOOT THANK YOU”.
It’s a thing on 1940 too. This couple actually waits for purge announcements, then wait till players are engaged defending, then gank.
Not only yours m8, not only yours hopefully!
My fellow exile @Wonka, DO NOT LOOSE FAITH I BEG YOU!
Just see it like this…
If you happen to meet honored exiles you’ll be really happy!
And there are a lot out there, trust me. The difficult part is that the most of them are frighten and if you happen to be a giving person on them they get suspicious .
But don’t loose faith, eventually you’ll find amazing people, amazing, because there are out there m8, I guarantee you this, I’ve met a lot!
To be clear, Magie is talking about “offering a hand” then curb-stomping the one you’re purportedly there to halp. What you’re describing was common on PvP servers, which is why the Purge is an especially fun mechanic there. Your head never swivels quite so much as during Purge with a couple dozen online!
Oh I still remember the PS2 sessions I had with 2 friends when we played Champions of Norrath and the next boss battle came in. Everyone was ready to spam SQUARE when his HP approached 0…
After reading all these messages now I can be sure that it is the right call to keep trying to make things the right way!
Most of you play fair, most of you keep the good spirit, despite everything else!
So, yes, now I know stuff like that can and will happen, but it is not the way things are nowadays.
Most players out there (and specially here in the forum) are A+ players .
Purge announcements?
I mean, if you’re on a PvP server and you announce you’re getting purged you should expect people to show up to “help.”
LOL thank you for the chuckle
And that sort of thing (as well as poorly maintained eyesores calling themselves bases) is the reason this one periodically feels the need to play on PvP servers.
Condolences, but to be fair, not everyone bound for the Exiled Lands can be innocent or decent.
Many of them probably did violate a goat like the note on their chest implies.
And if they didn’t, it’s probably because they got caught in the attempt.
