I think one image worth more than words
For orphaned thralls/pets, I would kite the boss monsters to the area and let them aggro it. I had a similar issue at mounds and i pulled that Groot monster repeatedly until they were all gone.
However I think the devs have fixed that since last i pulled one they stopped after a few meters.
