Time to fix the last one shot mechanic?

Well, its not a “bug” so the best you can probably expect is for it to get slotted into the next major update; probably won’t make it into a patch if I were a betting man. I do think though that this is a sound suggestion.

I personally think its in exploit teritory but it does not matte what nameplate we put on it - even important bugs are not fixed straight away unfortunatelly.

Well there is an achievement for it… so as stupid an attack as it is, at some point in development, it was clearly intentional. I do think there would be an openness to change it tho.

Some QoL PvP changes that many might agree with

making it require you to stand on someone’s head for no less than a half-second before it triggers rather than instant.

I suppose the two foundation would work but with all the server lag and Conan being a buggy game I’d personally like to see this mechanic gone. I mean double jump is pretty close to two foundations anyways so if you add in a small hill this change wouldn’t make much of a difference.

Yes… destructive as in some of the suggestions above were trying to alter other things that have nothing to do with this specific mechanic… (like removing beast of burden or double jump etc)
If you want to change this mechanic… then maybe confine your suggestions to actually affecting ONLY this mechanic and not a bunch of other things (not directed personally at you, but in general)

And it does look like you are trying to start a fight if your first instinct is to bring up whether I personally play pve or pvp… I bought the game just like you, I have as much right to play pvp or pve or whatever I want and suggest things for either mode.

You guys keep repeating this as some mantra… when in reality EVERY competitive game HAS some sort of one-shot mechanic, they’re just locked behind some skill requirement.

Pick a PvP game, heck pick one that’s played for actual Esports… where the rules matter a bit more. Pretty much most of them have some sort of skill-shot… be it a sniper that oneshots you, a moba style skill-shot… etc etc.

So the issue isn’t the “one-shot mechanic”… the issue is that it’s readily accessible all the time and easier than actually fighting because people don’t need a platform for it and can just double-jump on your head to kill you.

(On top of that, I’m not sure they actually could remove it even if they wanted to. Like it’s been mentioned above, the mechanic is directly tied to a Steam achievement. I’m not sure what Steam’s policy is about removing the ability to complete achievements that some players already have.)

Idk, I feel like the suggestion I made above will effectively remove this mechanic from PvP play cuz nobody will bother relying on this and being overencumbered for something this situational, leaving the original achievement and “easter-egg” type mechanic intact in the game.

Or do you honestly believe that people are going to make this the meta that they’re quickly gonna try to build a tower next to you so they can jump on your head instead of using weapons?

Way to pick things apart. I did quote the ideas I liked and thought wouldn’t have a drastic impact on play or messing with any trophies. The beast of burden I did not agree with because it affects everyone. Removing the ability to double jump while over encumbered only affects those who are abusing this mechanic. IMO

I think you just have a chip on your shoulder and now can’t stand any change (especially one that is only getting blow back because of a trophy ). I asked you a question and you didn’t answer. Do you play pve and why does removing or balancing the double jump one shot affect you? If you take that as an argument then not much more to say to you.

Correct but there are very view areas in Conan that are perfectly flat so a rock or small hill can be used as a “platform”. In pvp most people will fight around war pyramids or fobs so it’s very easy to jump on ppl in general

No but making it 2 foundations isn’t a fix for reasons I’ve already stated. Is It a slight improvement? Sure but why not nip it in the butt pvp in a survival game should never be about naked fighting.

No, that will make people still try to jump on your head, but without double-jump, but as collateral damage completely nuking the ability for people to use that when simply coming home from farming overencumbered and trying to mitigate fall damage with a double jump for example…

I did answer… my answer was that it is irrelevant whether at the moment I play PvP or PvE… because BOTH are parts of the game I bought… and I pointed out that bringing up whether someone plays PvE or PvP in a theoretical discussion about game-mechanics is a very “PvP thing” to do and IS actually a good way of starting an argument…

Basically the blunt version is "It’s none of your business what I play or how it affects me… " my personal horse in this race is not the discussion topic here, but rather trying to find an acceptable solution to a problem brought up.

Yes, but at that point it becomes a strategy and in that case it’s your fault for fighting in that specific spot when you can take a step back and render the “naked guy” useless…
It becomes so situational that people are not going to actively build for that and rely on it… why would they go around over-encumbered if they can’t do anything with it and just get straight up killed on any open ground?..

If you don’t like it… then suggest 2.5 foundations…

How’s that quote relevant to that thou? That was a legit suggestion and not sarcasm or anything. I do think the lag on officials is making a lot of other mechanics much worse. And like Taemien always says people are way too tolerant of the performance of official servers… they make a post here and there, but are just too accepting. More organized feedback needs to take place regarding the poor performance of official servers instead of nitpicking about other things that are merely made worse by lag. That would be the big win here… finally getting through to Funcom and having them run proper servers…

Maybe though, we can agree that head stomping as a pvp tactic in a sword and sorcery game where basic fisticuffs isnt even a viable combat tactic doesnt really fit? I clearly dont know how its really used in common practice, but naked double jump stomp with an invisible backpack of rock does seem to me like a pretty silly combat mechanic. I would like more hand to hand fighting mechanics personally (maybe some grappling with a single knife kinda thing) but if goomba stomp is a one shot kill when two handed overhand chop isn’t… I can see the complaint.

I’m going to assume you don’t play pvp since you won’t answer. If the ability to double jump while encumbered is removed I guarantee you won’t see this “meta” anymore. As for the farmers yes I agree it would be a slight set back but can be talked about.

It is definitely intended. Because there is an achievement for it.

But when the achievement was first introduced, the perk Beast of Burden was not. Combining the two was an oversight. Beast of Burden had a BUNCH of oversights attached to it. But removing it would relegate this tactic to the odd case of seeing someone climb some where or stuck in an enclosed passage where someone would be able to simply drop on them (basically like tossing a bunch of bricks/rocks on them).

You wouldn’t be able to double jump without it. So it fixes that setup. You can’t sprint so you’re vulnerable out in the open. Cannot swim nor ride a mount very fast, so you’re not going anywhere fast. And you wouldn’t be able to dodge so you’d be a sitting duck while trying to set up. I do think they should introduce extra stamina drain based on encumbrance level to make that a bit realistic.

But the idea of running around with 200,000 stone has got to go. Should have never been added to the game to begin with.

I like a good forum pvp as much as the next guy, but I think this one isn’t the battle. Does anyone think goomba stomp naked with bag of rocks isn’t silly? I mean, its off brand and not lore friendly. I just dont think this is the hill to fight over and am completely willing to cede it. Solutions were proposed that would help one play environment without impacting other environments and in those rare moments, I am happy to oblige. I would add a server toggle today if it were in my power and flick it off for all funcom pvp servers and leave the stomp alive for co-op and privates if they want to keep it alive for the achievement.

I’m sure another opportunity for forum pvp will present itself that puts me on the other side of @Wielder and @Capt_insano0 , and when that happens, at least we will know we agreed on something at one point

Dropping on someone with a ton of bricks doesn’t actually bother me. Its using Beast of Burden and Extended Leap to do it. If Beast of Burden was changed to extra carrying capacity instead of being helium bags, then an overencumbered person would be unable to jump or sprint to make this tactic a go to. They’d have to rely on using choke points and if they miss, there is dire consequences for doing so.

Its the easiest way for solution that has a wide variety of other issues it can fix in addition. Think about it like this. If you remove Extended Leap, you have replace it with something. That’s a hefty design challenge. Not impossible, but its effectively back to the drawing board. If you remove the goomba stomp entirely, a steam achievement has to be redone. Given their track record with journey steps… I’m not liking this option. If you do some other suggestion in this thread such as a timer, a damage over time effect, or what have you, its a brand new mechanic that has to be planned, developed, tested, and then possibly be bugged for a while. Where as if you deal with Beast of Burden and give a substantial amount of carrying capacity, that’s a fix either you or I could knock out in a day (you could probably do it a helluva lot faster than I can lol), with little issue.

But yes, I don’t like the perk and would like to see several issues it causes knocked out with one stone. It just so happens to be the most efficient and elegant way of fixing the OP’s issue with it.
