Total new to ce, and need advice on where to start and mods

Hi, should i start in the old beginning area, or isles? I never played about to make first character and want to real experience the game and store.

Both maps are great el has a better map flow, but siptah has better redundancies of the biomes… i personally like siptah more played it since launch but many prefer el… siptah and el also both have different top end gear sets, i guess it depends on what you like most about games and weather your playing pve pve c or pvp…

Siptah has most resources scattering the map,

El has most resource in huge clusters on part of the map, if this helps: basically siptah makes rarer resources easier to locate but harder to bulk farm

Each map has uniques attached to dungeons and boss fights

Gearwise: siptahs stronger but also adds an additional level of play

Factions are roughly the same thing in both maps and dont offer much more than resources

Population, id say el is larger because it didnt cost an additional $20

Pets and thralls: el has larger resources for both of these in clusters, siptah has more camps for thralls but spread out and thinner in number, pets in siptah the babies spawns are way less and more spread out

Hope this helps

What mods would you suggest?

Mod it till it breaks, then mod it a little more.

As much as I love mods, I would actually recommend playing the game a bit without. Just to get an idea of how the game works without. Then you’ll have a better idea of what you want to enhance the gameplay that you want.

I played the game for my first 800 hours without mods. That was up to and through the Frozen North expansion update in early access. There was plenty of content in the base game for that many hours and much has been added in the 4-5 years since.

I’d suggest not modding right now for two reasons.

  1. It’s good to get a vanilla game experience under your belt. Personally when I get a new game, I like to give it at least one or two complete playthroughs before I even consider adding mods.

  2. With the 3.0 update still very fresh and smaller patches still coming in to fix various bugs and whatnot, mod compatibility might still be a little bit iffy. It’s entirely up to the mod creators to update their mods after a game update, and some are quicker at it than others.

I would recommend Exiled Lands not modded for a new player as well. A lot of players who start modded don’t actually know how the base game play and can’t troubleshoot when something goes wrong. Depending on what mods you use you can break your game significantly and experience quite some issues with game updates. Play unmodded for a while to learn and figure out what you enjoy and what you don’t, then you will know what mods to add to enhance your experience.

Very much in agreement with the previous posters. Try it out without mods. See how you enjoy the game and play long enough to get a feeling of what works for you, and what you feel is missing. Then go find a mod that gives you what the original game is missing.

The one mod I personally recommend is Fashionist. Eventually you’ll get bored of all of your crafting thralls wearing the same colorless apron. Fashionist lets you play dress-a-dolly with crafters whose clothing you can’t normally change (and even completely change their appearance if you don’t like the bald-top-and-long-back-hair fashion so common with Exiles). Since last week it should be fully compatible with the new official updates, too.

Exiled Lands is easier to approach when you’re completely new. The Journey Steps guide you with the game’s essential features, and the difficulty level is pretty straightforward - the further you go from the starting area, the harder the challenges. With a few notable exceptions. And the map is big enough to give you plenty of things to explore for hundreds of hours, so it’s not any poorer in content than the newer Siptah map.

Once you know how the game works, Siptah has a faster progression simply because high-tier resources are more readily available, whereas in the Exiled Lands they can be limited to one or two locations on the entire map.

Playing from lvl 1 to lvl 60 without any mods at least once seems the best way to grab the game real experience. I played for hundreds hours on PS4 and XBox like this. First on the Exiled Lands then on Siptah Island after it came out.
But now I play on PC and use these mods :
Fashionist
Improved Quality of Life (IQoL)

I recommend exiled lands. Its more detailed and has more content packed into it.
I dont recommend mods on your first playthroughs. Play the game as intended.

Ive played with mods in the past, mainly I liked the additional character customization options… but since 3.0 Im back in official vanilla pvp server and liking it again.

This is the best advice.

I recommend playing on official servers. It’s the “best” experience, really. =)))

Seconded!! If you’re new. Play without mods and learn the game. Then when you’re bored add more stuff :joy:
