Nanu the Cannibal was inside the mountain by his Yog Pit. Admin killing forced him to re spawned in the correct location.

As usual, when dealing with private servers… are there any mods installed that could be affecting this behavior?

With all due respect, I did not take that as arrogant, just a lead-in about checking the mods.
It’s fairly common for a mod to cause unexpected client behaviour.
I am also a private server player, but not for the reasons you mentioned. If I had to put up with those things, I would abandon the official servers also.
