Is it possible to just use one item for the illusion and not have to make it again? I mean, I get the realism that you’re using the item to apply it as an illusion, but the resources to make tons of the same thing only to apply it to another same thing is tedious. It would help make uniformity easy, specially for wanting an entire army to look how you want them to.

It is not possible.
Having to gather all of the resources to gear your army and make illusions for them gives you something to do as a slightly longer-term project.
Also, remember that many items have the same appearance, so you can use the cheapest version of a certain design for your illusions.

You can use the mod Fashionist, this adds a cosmetic item slot for each piece of armour you wear.
