The problem here is the CCP has been gathering and stealing everything they can get their hands on for decades. A little bit of data from FunCom, a little from Blizzard, this company, that company then a whammy at Equifax. Add all this up in one big database and you have the power to collapse the financial sector of the world for weeks if not months. We need to smarten up because word on the street is Tencent ultimately answers to the CCP.

This is concerns many player on a serious matter and as such, DM is not an appropriate approach by Funcom to tackle this. Additionally, if player related personal data is transfered to an other enterprise and or company in a country which is know to have different/lower privacy or human rights standards, customer has a rightful claim to get informed of the use of their personal data.

I, too, like to know if any personal Data Funcom has or will be collecting is transferred or processed on servers located in China or a Chinese company has access to.

@UltraViolent if you are the only one to ask the question and ask it politely to privacy@funcom.com, you’ll hopefully get your answer. Rui Casais is in management (as CEO), he’s not part of Public Relations (PR).

I’m aware they’re not the only one with questions, but for those looking for public clarification, note that the people who address it are not looking at these forums and it’s going to take time to do so.

I should clarify myself that you’re ok to send an e-mail as well, but only for concerns about your personal data. There’s plenty of people who’d like to chime into this, but I’m not for flooding Funcom with e-mails to make a point.

Please be patient. They should answer within 7 - 14 work days (excluding weekends).
It is possible however -and I could imagine it’s not the best timing for such an answer-, they are connected to the Oslo office which is currently on holidays (EU law).

These forums are not for privacy inquiries, nor do PR or CMs handle them.
The Privacy team, as far as I’m concerned, can only answer and address specific personal cases. I believe they can not directly be held accountable to change (written) policy.

Melcom’s uncertain answer is reasonable, imo. My idea of their responsibility could be off. I’ll see if I can get an answer for this too.

Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate your endeavour in this matter but I expect an offical response instead of a volunteer moderator or dedicated community member.

EDIT: I like to add the wuestion why this topic was set invisible? This is getting disconcerting. A general question about privacy handling by Funcom effecting public (all players) is getting concealed. Not a very trustworthy approach.

IT seems an answer is given, it’s just some don’t like it. The answer is TO INDIVIDUALLY SEND AN EMAIL to the one provided. IF you really are concerned, following that should not be hard. And once you have your answer, you are more than welcome to share the answer in the forum. But it seems the moderators have been told to direct questions about privacy to an email. that is all they can do. Convey that answer per company policy…

I’m just here to add my voice to the call for a statement on this issue.

I have been following this thread since it started and while a solution has been given, I don’t believe anyone thinks it good enough.
This is is something that almost all companies do. they collect data and don’t tell you where it goes, only that it is being collected and shared with third parties.
Nefarious or not, it certainly has the potential to appear that way.
Funcom should be upfront with an official statement as ownership has changed.

Sorry but you guys are totally missing the point. Yes ALL tech company’s collect data but every time there is a change (even Microsoft) publish their privacy policy and all changes to it, not only to a public website easily accessible but you even get a popup or prompt that directs you to this page and also states “accept” these changes, you get my drift. But we got nothing Zero nahdah from Funcom this is why this is concerning nothing about country, race or whatever else you want to side track this issue with.

Tencent down more than 10%, wechat, that CCP propaganda\monitoring software that Tencent developed seems to be getting attention. Pretty soon Tencent will be barely worth a nickel.

What EU law? Here in Denmark you are entitled to a set amount of weeks of vacation, but there’s no law about when. You don’t have to send everyone home and close down the company. You can take turns and keep the company running.

If Funcom is sending everybody home at the same time, I’m pretty sure it’s their own choice.

I doubt they sent everyone home. But not all devs/staff can do the others jobs. Hence, the teams that are their are doing stuff that they are hired to do until the full team assembles again, and then they can start integrating things the separate areas were able to work on. It is like a house. Just because there are 4 carpenters on site, doesn’t mean they can install the wiring. They can prep the frames and make sure when the electricians get there they can do their job. And once a house is built, if you have a carpenter hired to do some roof repairs, they can’t fix a plumbing problems if a pipe breaks while they are on the clock. You have to wait for the plumber.

Don’t know if that’s what they mean, but a lot of companies don’t handle the payment system themselves, some payment company does… Maybe that’s what they mean
