Using IPV6 to host a private server?

So I don’t have a public IPV4 from my isp that I can port forward. I’d have to pay a monthly fee for that.

I do have IPV6 support, which is publicly addressable - I’ve been doing reddit and forum searches but I can’t seem to find anything if I can host a server via ipv6…

So simple question - is it possible?

If it is, is there instructions anywhere? I’m new to Conan, so any help is appreciated. I have the dedicated server launcher downloaded but I can’t seem to ask it to not default to IPV4.

thanks!

You should ask in the dedicated launcher thread pinned under the servers category. That thread is the one monitored by Toolguy who developed the launcher.

Well now, I knew it was coming, but this is the first I’ve actually seen someone where this was an issue. Guess that means I’ll have to do a refresher on IPv6 sometime soon.

Thanks - I will

Yeah, i’m learning as well!

This is true, and thanks for mentioning it

That being said, I think the first test should be to check if the game itself works fine using ipv6 instead of ipv4, because I’ve no idea about that.

Regarding the launcher, I made sure to not use UI elements that formatted like [xyz.xyz.xyz.xyz] to make sure I would not put any restriction on the input format, and I don’t believe I check anywhere if the IP is malformed or not, so I’d say it’s worth trying, and check if that works or not.

If the server works but my tool fails, and if you can identify the specific parts that don’t behave properly (ie: Corrupted display in the UI, or truncated IP in a log or ini file or command line parameter, etc…) just tell me.

I personally don’t use IPV6 and don’t have access to a machine setup to use it, so that makes the testing difficult on my side.

Thanks for the reply. I’m at work at the moment but will try some things when i get home.

I’m learning about IPV6 now too as I didn’t even have it turned on on my router until this problem arose. Are you suggesting I try turning off my IPV4 (if that is possible) and then see if I can connect to a random public server?

I did try just typing in my IPV6 address into the multihome spot and I believe it exceeded the available length… I can also try within the game if it will accept that many characters.

So for direct connection inside conan you can’t enter a long enough ip string to make ipv6 work it would seem.

I’m not sure about disabling ipv4 and trying to connect to a public game via ipv6 yet…

Also I was wrong in my last reply, i was able to get the length of a IPV6 in that multihome spot.
