Funcom you should invest in better servers. It will 100% be worth it. The game is so good, but when its so laggy that its unplayable, thats why Ark and Rust is beating you down…
Invest in better servers and see Conan Exiles be the number 1 survival game!
In the interest of being open, and honest in my emoji response, I fully empathise with your issue.
I fully agree that Funcom needs to improve their server stability, but I am lead to believe they are ‘locked in’ to a contract with G-Portal. I had hoped that with the release of the Enhanced version we would see better server performance, but again, I am lead to believe that Inflexion are working on solutions, so fingers crossed.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I think CE/CE:E uses a Hybrid P2P network. Which means one person with an AOL Dialup (joking?) connection ruins it for everyone else.
I say this because a lot of what I experience on Official reminds me of the times on a Valheim server when others were ‘in the area’. It’d get so bad you couldn’t interact with objects (ie branches) and mobs would run in place for a second or two while warping around. ..and there wasn’t really anything the admins could do because the game isn’t built to use typic Client-server networking.
It’s an interesting theory. But wouldn’t that also have the same result on private servers on other providers? Certainly there are some reports of issues from that quarter, but seemingly nothing like as bad. I would have thought that the same problems would apply to those servers as well if that was the cause. (Really not my area of expertise, just suggesting what seems like a hole in the logic, from my (potentially ignorant) perspective.)
Not necessarily, as Destiny 2 also uses a Hybrid P2P and I’ve never had lag in that game.
Meanwhile, I’ve had rubberbanding going on, on an Official while there’s not even a dozen players on it. But then also had relatively no lag while on the same server when there’s 20+.
So either GPortal has really bad servers for all the games they support (in which case they wouldn’t still be in business), the game hasn’t had network optimization for the last 8-odd years, or the connection quality of individual players impacts the connection of others.
As have been discussed in other threads, a gportal server isent like 1 machine = 1 server, from what people have found it is very likely 4 servers pr machine, then you could be 3 people on one of them and have rubberband issues, if the 3 others on the machine have 25 players each as an exsample.
But this is not something we likely will ever find out if true or not, gportal would likely not tell us if this is the case, but the issues at hand does look very similar to the problems that occur if you run multiple servers pr machine, mornings are great, evenings really bad lag, peak hours nearly impossible to play, even if the server you are on have 10 people on it.
You are looking at the situation from the wrong angle. The official servers seem to be little more than bait; the real goal appears to be pushing players toward paid servers hosted by G-Portal. There is likely a significant financial incentive involved, possibly through licensing agreements or business arrangements between the parties.
Official servers have always suffered from recurring issues, and even simple solutions often seem delayed or ignored for long periods of time. This creates the impression that providing a truly functional experience on official servers was never the real priority. On the contrary, it feels as though they do not actually want players staying on official servers.
In practice, the official servers come across as little more than a limited demo — full of restrictions, poor performance, and persistent problems — serving mainly as a showcase for the game while steering players toward alternative options.
I’d love to see some one in authority come on and say.
“Well we really wanted to upgrade the servers before the game went to UE5 but due to data center demands we were unable to achieve our goals before the UE5 release. If you would be patient we will be upgrading servers as we can, yad yad yad”.
But that is not going to happen, no rep wants to step up and take the hit.
Sorry, be persevered as the one responsible. I mean really who wants to step in to that bullet?
I honestly dont believe that, for several reasons, people on dedicated machines with same host report similar issues, with same populations, then you see reports of someone moving to another host, suddently it run eons better, the game runs nearly perfect with around 6 people, start to lag slightly with 10+, 15+ its rubberbanding, 20+ good luck going up stairs, or not teleporting during combat, i do believe 100% that funcom would like us to play with no rubberbanding or lag, and have the best experience in the game that they created, developers take pride in the gameworlds they create, the issue is very likely financial/host/netcode/a gportal exclusive deal, i will never believe that as you say they want to push us away from officials, rubberbanding on this level i never experienced in UE4, lag yes especially if someone started a purge, this is actually something that seem to be fixed, yesterday someone were running a purge on the official we are playing on, there was no difference in lag/rubberbanding, so that seems to be handled somewhat better on UE5, so it is not all bad, but the rubberbanding issue currently on hand, is so bad that it daily push people away from the game, i have seen this first hand, im fairly sure this is not what they want, i have personally played conan from the very beginning, the very first day possible i logged in, there have been countless of good things, but also a lot of fustration, but none that ever pushed me away from the game, with that said the rubberband issue right now, would if not fixed push me into other games, as it is basically not playable when it occurs, but i have high hopes still
You might be right! i only have the information other players report of it, where one said it ran eons better with another host with same numbers, but if it is the case as you say, then it likely will be fixed (i hope) would hate to leave this amazing game for good, but that is the sad reality, i have zero interest in non officials, as i dont want another player to have access to admin tools, so for me its officials or nothing, but thanks for your input it gave me more hope
