Weapon back display bug

Bug Description:

  • Turned off ability to display weapon. Could still see weapon. Turned off weapon display a second time and it disappeared for self, but other players could still see it. Both original players were then observed running into a wall by each other and a third player and then the server crashed and we were all kicked to login screen.*

Expected Behavior:

*Functional weapon display toggle. No crashing. *


Steps to Reproduce:

Toggle weapon display on then off with the players on a private server within sight of each other until server crashes.

Just a thought, you might have the causation backwards. It might be that server was already heading toward a crash that caused your settings changes to not register.

You should try it again when the server is operational again. If it doesn’t crash and your settings take affect as they should, probably the crash was the problem. But if it crashes a second time, well… then you were probably right the first time around.

nods I did wonder if it was coincidence, but it’s a dedicated server and the first time it has crashed completely for all players. Been stable, bar restarts, for rubber banding for months.

Pretty much the only thing we were doing was toggling that setting (players 1 and 2) downstairs, noting that it wasn’t working properly and trying to see if we could get the setting visibly turned off due to the visual issues, (while player 3 was upstairs), so I’d hazard there’s a fair chance it was related to that system. A shield was persisting at that point and by the time player 3 came downstairs to look it had already fallen over as 1 & 2 were running into walls.

It was also five minutes or after players 1 and 3 had had the Orb of Nergal issue, had force quit and then rejoined. Player 2 had picked up the Orb in an attempt to free us but it hadn’t worked. Server was still running at that point and had shown no delay to him as he had stayed online to replace the Orb building while 1&3 had reloaded the game and logged back on. So potentially another cause.

Honestly wary to play now until there’s another patch to resolve things - a level 20 horse full of stuff dead to a bug after barely an hour leaves us unwilling to lose more assets to anything else we might find, sadly.

Think they’ll set up a few test servers for the varying game modes for bug reporting?

We did mess with it for a couple of minutes after rejoining - repeatedly equipping and unequipping a weapon (if I recall) turned out to finally clear the unequipped shield from the players back for the others.

At that point however we’d chatted and decided to move on and play different games until the next patch, incase we lose more stuff, and look into pausing paying for the dedicated server if it’ll be a while. :pensive:

There seem to be three issues at hand in this thread.
First, the sheathing problem. As @Tephra mentioned, it does look like the server was crashing at that moment which made it look like the change wasn’t working, and later, that it caused the crash. So far it seemed a coincidence, but let us know if it happens again.
Second, the Orb of Nergal issue. We’re aware of it and it’s been reported recently. We’re looking to fix it for a future patch.
Third, server crashing. That could be one or many reasons. Silver lining is that each time a server crashes, a crash dump is sent to our backend where we can investigate common crashes and fix them based on number of incidences per type of crash.
