A lot of these kinds of changes wind up being to support other changes that are coming. So if you see something change and shrug, keep an eye on the implications for the change when future stuff comes.

You still can’t help yourself can you? This is where I part ways with this and be ‘dismissive’ because of we go further, it will just get ugly. You’ll probably see that as a win for you and miss how toxic you are becoming. Sobeit. All I can do is point that the train is coming. Like I said earlier, I hope you snap out of it because I do like and respect your views like 90% of the time.

It probably is. But if they didn’t learn anything from the #worldbossblocking fiasco then they’re not giving their player base enough credit.

Informing and managing expectations would go a long way. Look at all of us, throwing up our arms and pitchforks, speculating and arguing.

All they’d have to do is explain; even just a tidbit is fine.

We don’t have to like it but at least we’d have understanding.

@LostBrythunian and @erjoh could you please stop clashing, the discussion derails a bit.

The reason why so many people are so upset about this, isn’t the bench or the immersion factor.
This change is simply implemented in the most complicated and clumsiest way possible.

IF the dye bench would have the same size AND a similar menu like the orb of nergal for example, it wouldn’t be as frustrating.

You put the dyes into the bench and a menu opens like at the orb, and then you could dye the armor you’re wearing.

But as it stands you will have to place this enormous bench with relatively small inventory space, take your armor off (what is dangerous in the volcano or the frozen north, or if you get surprised by attackers), put it in the bench, put the dyes in the bench (or if you have a lot of different dyes, you have to move them between a chest, your inventory and the bench).
… And THEN you have to put them into the specific slots to actually dye the armor pieces!

Just as clumsy as the illusion/transmog system at the Thaumaturgy Bench, where you have to craft all the armor pieces for your illusion first, put them and your actual armor into the slots and do the thing.
If an Illusion would simply cost a pouch, and the bench would also have a menu like the orb it would also be much more comfortable.

  • the menu could contain siptah gear for illusions as well, would dlc-owners on exiled lands at least give the chance to have siptah transmogs!

Besides that, FC always should take into consideration that content has to work for everyone, a solo pvp player won’t have the space for the insanely big dye bench.

Remember the discussion about future mounts and siege elephants?
Siege elephants would be something EVERYONE could enjoy, but we got a bartender instead… in age of WAR…

Do you also remember the curiosity if chapter 4 will be more bug fixes, and if they finally learned their lesson?
Obviously not… the change wouldn’t be a problem IF it was implemented in a good way.

But of course the last (disastrous) live stream shattered all these illusions.
And regarding “IMMERSION”, isn’t it immersive to fall through foundations, to have enemies spinning mid air, getting stuck facing into the same direction, rubberband or having invisible avatars?
… Nevermind hackers!
Or the broken thrall pots and pet feeder boxes which are broken for about a year now, or the rebalancing of pets in general. All of which are things people are concerned about.
(Btw i don’t get why FC is selling so many reskins for pets in the bazaar which are nerfed beyond use in the first place.)

Instead of fixing any of these problems, or doing anything that is actually meaningful, they waste their time with an OVERHAUL OF THE DYE BENCH?!

That’s what is so frustrating, unnecessary changes nobody asked for. There are so many MUCH more important things to tackle.

Anyways… stop clashing guys FC is to blame here, nobody else. Weekend is already over and andy didn’t even bother to actually answer some questions in his so called “Q&A” thread.

That’s another indication how important our feedback is. :tada:

@LostBrythunian , @erjoh love you guys! :heart::metal:

On a completely unrelated note, i maybe know why FC refuses to fix thrall pots and pet feeder boxes, they are probably afraid out of superstition

I agree here. There are so much more things to revamp that would be far more beneficial to the player base at large. I think presenting the completion of the pets project (which was left incomplete previously with the promise of returning to finish the work) would be much better served for an Age of War (having battle ready animal companions) than tweaking the dye bench.

I stopped trying to understand Funcom’s thought processes long ago…
With so much stuff that needs fixing, they spend their time on minute issues that nobody is concerned about. Perhaps there is a grand plan en marche that I fail to see where these changes will somehow make more sense…

I doubt the dye bench will be of significance in the grand scheme of things :joy:

The ways of the lord are impenetrable, very smart are those who can guess where Funcom wants to go.
The only thing I’m sure of regarding Funcom, they are going in all directions to get nowhere. Everything they put in place is unfinished.
The list of additions which are not complete or have become useless and so long (pet animals, enslaved NPCs etc…) let’s hope that Funcom finally manages to implement their ideas in a coherent way and that they come to us to tell us what 'they do .

I wanted to keep it relatively short, but yeah…
Should have added this:

Most of the listed stuff would be much more important to the majority of players. :man_shrugging:

I’m gonna be mad about it for about two weeks, go through the five stages of grief over it, then be fine.

Maybe.

I wish I could be so calm :joy:

My base will be on fire, the dyes thrown on the floor, but it’s fine. :joy:

Well you will notice that in my post… I did shift the relevant term to believability.

Just wait for Bazaar Dye bench skins. Much smaller than ever before
Create a problem…sell a solution for a fair price of 2566 Crom Coins.

A bit of egregious speculation… Requiring a bench for dying armor could be a precursor to special dyes that impart stats and/or resistances to armor.

Seems very unlikely and I’m not sure I’d even want such a mechanic. That said a non-permanent, reversible way to modify armor for specific fights, areas or tactics would have it’s uses.

I believe the warpaint was used for that at one point. I don’t think there are any now that give stat boosts - besides the chapter 4 beta warpaint

The dye bench as far as I know is going forward. Feedback was given on this and they are sticking to their decision. They want a non-changing item UI and that is going to happen hell or high water.

What I would like to see is the removal of the individual dyes. The dye bench instead given the ability of a color picker. If there has to be a cost, then it would be reagents from various plants, but a cost IMO isn’t necessary. There isn’t much one with the illusion system, so why are dyes more expensive?

If we could just pick our colors at will, the bench would be quite a bit more palatable. If I have to use a bench for dyeing but I can use whatever color I want, and don’t have to go farming specific stuff, the ease of use gets a bit better in the long run.

Has anyone ever seen a single complaint about the old contextual buttons? Has anyone ever thought to themselves ‘this is just too complicated, what we need is less player freedom’?

This is one of the things I find most irritating about Funcom’s decision-making - it seems to be based on the idea that ‘no player has ever asked for this, therefore we must do it against all player objections’ and time and again it turns out to be detrimental, with the players being far clearer on what is or is not useful.

I know a lot of people may disagree with this, but I choose to take it on faith that it’s needed for planned improvements. The pain today may be forgotten with the things that may follow.
