So why is it 60? Battle pass, character level. There has to be a reason you aren’t going metric based 10 so why?
60 is one of those numbers that is divisible by a ton of numbers. That’s my guess.
The better question would be, why do we even have character levels? Its a timesink with no reason other than to be a timesink. A person getting to 60 by progressing through each area as they get stronger learns more and is a better player than the one who just grinds up to 60 on easy encounters. Yet they have the same abilities.
I’d much prefer if levels were removed entirely from characters and replaced with the journey steps awarding Attribute points and you learn all the basic recipes that way as well.
Mmmmmmmsssdoonot Compute honestly wish I had grown up with. Metric system. Was just getting touched on in the day
Growing up I was always being told by everyone that the metric system was just so much harder to use and was too confusing and we shouldn’t even bother with it because only those silly Europeans use that nonsense. Pretty much all the formal instruction on it I got in school was that it exists, but that I shouldn’t concern myself too much with trying to learn it.
Then I went to college, and we exclusively used the metric system there. It only took about ten minutes before I started asking what the hell was wrong with all those people that were telling me my whole life that metric was just too complicated and useless. Metric is billions of times easier to use and way more precise than imperial. WTF? ![]()
Level cap could just be following the trends of other games, WoW cap was 60, Diablo etc etc
Completely agree
17 years auto tlechnician lots of metric sizes another 11 years welder fabrication and then 16 years guess what making venalation engine fans for metric boats yhahts ships ect. @Glurin Hav a butt load metric tools in the garage
Well, if you go back to the first recognized civilization (not counting the ones in the Hyborian Age
) then you would see that the Sumerian’s had what was known as Sexagesimal system. This was a system which had a base number of 60. This system was also passed down to the Babylonian civilization as well.
If you look at our units of time (seconds and minutes) they are also done in a base unit of 60. ![]()
What does this have to do with Conan Exiles you may ask? Probably nothing what so ever. ![]()
I don’t know if there is a significance to the number 60, but I think level 60 is an output for balance. Let’s say you start the balance by creating the lowest and maximum power point, after that you can assign 1 attribute point per level, and well… you may get 60
. This way is easier to understand that you get 1 attribute point per level, rather than getting stronger through more complicated systems.
Also levels should indicate your progress you made on the map (recipes, weapons/tools/armors, knowledge, zone you are in), I say should because if you are experienced enough, the game allows you to pretty much go wherever you want.
Maybe WoW culture has something to do with number 60 being so popular as a level cap. I personally avoid games which have level caps of hundreds, it seems off for me ![]()
There’s no real reason for the battle pass. For player level 60 being standard, the game is balanced around the perks given by various attributes. You currently get to choose between a thrall build, a farming build, or a variety of pvp builds.
60 is divisible by 10. Im somewhat confused by your post.
The only reason metric makes sense is because we have a base-10 counting system, which is a terrible counting system.
Base-60 would be a bit excessive on the quantity of symbols required, but base-12 would be an excellent compromise. If only humans naturally had six fingers on each hand, we likely could have had a much better counting system.
Sadly, the world is already too ingrained with its awful base-10 counting system to even consider changing it now.
Pathetic. Base 12? What are we, two hexagons in a trench coat? A dozen eggs? The base 16 system is vastly superior. We should have 64 levels, with a perk every 4 points.
Worked with a fellow who had six on each hand
For a universal counting system, base-2 is the only one that truly makes sense. Base-16 is just base-2 with extra steps because it makes more sense to people already conditioned into the terrible base-10 counting system.
If there are other intelligent civilizations out there, I believe that all measurements will eventually dissolve down to base-2, and 16 is just 4 of those.
However, while base-2 is the most fundamental counting system possible, it is not ideal for normal life where a higher number is better. Base-16 as a base-2-by-proxy would be preferable over the current dreadful base-10 system, but 16 lacks the divisors that 12 has, which is a “superior highly composite number” and makes it excellent for real-life uses.
Hear me out, base-37.
OK thank you all. This topic and how we are all drilling down is just fun and brought a smile to me. Keep going and this is great discussion.
Do you expect the metric system to be the same on Mars? I don’t.
Given the resources you have on hand (not much), how would you measure out some logs? …
…Can we do it faster? ![]()
That’s not a good argument against the metric system. Base-10 is just better for scaling with our current numeric system. I like imperial as much as the next god-fearing American, but metric is objectively more precise and simple.
One gram on Earth is not the same as one gram on Mars. Because the gravities of Earth and Mars are not the same. Metric fails as it is local only.
The equipment cost for metric is greater.
My foot is about so much, and I can count out a measurement before I would need that equipment to test gravities for the gram.
P.S. Too many sci-fi movies…
That issue would also apply to imperial measurements! Length measurements wouldn’t need to change, only measurements of weight. Also, mass doesn’t change in space so we could maintain those measurements. We’d only need to account for changes in weight, which would still be easier to calculate within the parameters of the metric system.
