Deep cut, extremely good pull.
Bwavo.
To be entirely fair, those in all likelihood grew out of a shared duodecimal (dozenal 12 base) system which much of the Eastern Mediterranean Bronze Age shared. As the most complete records of that time came thru the only civilization to not go into complete collapse, replacement and rebirth (Egyptians) we run into issues… As they were somewhat notorious for their “fair and balanced” records. Not to the level that later Rome would engage, but they definitely were aware that future scholars would be reading what they put down and thus needed to know that they were the center of reality at the time.
In and of itself being an extremely utile combination of the earliest number divisible into both thirds and quarters and matching the finger counting (read:knuckle counting) system in place at the time, which excluded the sacred thumb.
Mingle that with a deep and abiding love of dichotomy (life and death, land and sea, ect) that philosophy and literature of the time enjoyed and it was easy to get 12 hours in the day and 12 hours sin the night.
This one often wonders if the AI and electric blue angels have their own system of sacred numerology, and if it is hexadecimal rather than dozenal/sexagismal, or if the look back on binary the same way we look at times before zero was formalized.
