Why is my base being attacked by someone else's purge?

Why is my base being attacked by someone else’s purge?
Is this because there is a neighbor to close?
Is it just collateral damage?

If the AI can not find your place, IE you have it elevated above the ground, the purgers can not access yours, so they default to the next closest structure.

We always build our bases on plateaus for this reason. One of neighbors moved because our purges destroyed their compound.

This was the mock up for the T3 mats

I’ve lost count of how many newbies have had their places purged into the ground because they built too close to me and my purge was like, “Ooh, easy pickin’s!”

In other words, if a lower level player doesn’t respect someone else’s space, particularly those living in a large, well-established bases, then they’re apt to get a purge marching by that’s much more powerful than they can handle.

To avoid the Undead Dragon, just don’t kill all of the first wave. Leave one “survivor” to pound on a foundation somewhere and just wait it out.

I do not think you are correct in what you said that if it can not find a path to the clan/player the purge is against then it defaults to nearest target.

I think it’s more like:
Purge NPCs spawn X distance from targets base
Purge NPCs walk/run towards it
Purge NPCs encounter ANY player owned item in that direct line, they attack regardless of who owns the item

I base this off direct experience:
I have a wheel near Sepermeru.
Close by near the water is a substantial base … clear unimpeded access from the side facing me
Near me on a rise above me there was another base.

The waterside base had a purge.
The purge wave attacked my base and did not touch his
He came out and realised it was attacking my base so killed them … this was when I saw some foundations had been destroyed by sand reapers in the event log and zoned across to investigate.
Next wave attacked the base on the rise next to me … we defeated it together
Both waves could have easily gotten to his base by walking around our structures, but they attacked the first player owned structure in their path instead. (I didn’t have any thralls/pets to draw their aggro.)
