Why make the game aggravating instead of fun?

Overlapping with another object or terrain.
Not enough contact with ground.

This is not fun, this is aggravation. Did you make the game for players to have fun or aggravation?

first-time-james-francoIt gets easier the more you work with it. Just start with foundations. Everything should be on foundations if you are playing online anyway.

Does this include pillars? most of my base is held up by pillars that just go directly to the ground. My walls are on foundations however

It can. It seems like performance is a huge factor.

Workarounds can include unequipping and reequipping build hammer, moving the hammer around, trying other pieces, cramming pieces around the space to force snap, etc.,… Some of the hit boxes of items are irregular and require more space so moving away from other objects/terrain or moving the item up or down.

Definitely aggravating.

Out of the large tents, the only one that can be placed on the bare ground is the shell tent. For the others, you need an optically smooth surface.

I wish we had a decent cabin tent, for when you want a nomadic style of play.

Some pieces are a pita to place correctly. My personal nemesis are inverted sloping walls. But with most of the (other) pieces, it’s a matter of experience. Fiddle around with it, have some patience, and it’ll work pretty well.

I know how to place a ladder. Ready?

1.) Usually, you place a frame, do that.
2.) Attach the frame by it’s side.
3.) Remove the wall or blocks the ladder would lean against–in the most non-intuitive way.
4.) Place the ladder on the frame, imagining the wall is still there.
5.) Replace the wall or blocks
LOL!

For the inverted walls, sometimes, you need to get on the other side, above, or below it.

The treehouse foundation is my personal nemesis, as there aren’t many ways to attach it–and it was the major reason why I wanted the add-on pack.

Yes. Foundations will keep your stuff from decaying faster.
