Will reducing barkeepers help noticable with server lag on private server?

We are running a private server that gained a lot of new players with CEE, and we do have a lot of lag when there are around 25+ people on the server.

Someone suggested we limit the active barkeeper/tavern per base to 1 to improve serverperformance.
Since i do not know much about the pathfinding of the tavern guesst and how it might impact the performance i thought i´ll ask here.

Is limiting the active tavern per base a vibale option to reduce the serverlag?
Or will the impact not be that big at all?

Ive been on one or two private servers that banned barkeeps for performance issues… I have no data on the subject, but in theory a barkeep spawns a lot of NPCs. I dont think it affects it terribly much though, since the NPCs mostly just walk and sit.

ps. I think light sources are one of the things that affect performance the most.

I’ve noticed increased lag spikes / fps drops when bars are active, pathfinding seems to be one of the main reasons, we have a brand new server and only 3 people play on it.

Between the bar and living settlements it seems the game’s lag gets x10 worse. Not to mention that I’ve noticed MASSIVE FPS drops when the bar is active, to the point the game freezes for good 3-5 seconds.

I’ve also noticed that some thralls spawned by the bar will be glitching out, trying to path their way to chairs unsuccessfully as well as random thralls on the roof. I’ve seen cases where there is a thrall clipped inside a foundation. So yeah, this is bad. Sadly bars are a no-go for now I guess.

Maybe putting the bar on a flat surface, with minimal building (open bar, with no ceiling and no way for pathfinding to glitch out) might help, I’ll test.

I mean, you probably don’t want to have too much seating or turn off thrall interaction. But the bar plus 1 or 2 tables with a few chair will make it look like people are there and using it without super heavy concentration of NPC thralls. I’d keep them spread out a little bit too. Not even the bar in Sepermu has that may people really.

Client side performance.

Server side is affected by:

  • Number of Players
  • Number of items in chests/boxes/etc.
  • Number of Placeables/Building Pieces
  • Number of NPCs
  • Barkeepers/Living Settlements
  • PvE Raid Castles (2 on Siptah remaining)

Anything reducing NPCs helps, but not much. Turning them off entirely (every single NPC) helps greatly.

We are PVE Server and a lot of people focus on building and decorating their bases.
High building piece limit, no decoration piece limit, 80 thralls per player
We will not change anything of that.
(No Mods though)

I just need to know if you guys think reducing the barkeepers to one per playerbase will even matter at all or just will upset some players and is not worth to try at all.

One barkeep with a limited number of tables/seats near him for patrons should probably be okay, I think.

no, no it wouldnt. For me that is Conan in a nutshell.

But they could potentially consider reducing the player limit per server, which would have an indirect effect. If we start getting issues around 20 players, why is the limit 40 players?
