I’m going to expound on this if you don’t mind.

They didn’t want to include Crossbows at the time because they didn’t really want to put in the development time into making them distinct from bows, and at the time they saw ranged weapons as ‘sidearms’ and not weapon types that player characters should build specifically for.

I would point out that Crossbows still ‘work’. Using clever tricks you can spawn them in and try them out. They’re kind of garbage because they haven’t had a balance pass in like 7 years obviously. But the code is in the game that makes them work.

They could somewhat easily (I say somewhat because its akin to adding another weapon type) reintroduce these weapons. And I definitely would like to see them. Their use could be distinctive from the bow in the fact that they only expend stamina when reloading, and not firing. Allowing someone to preload a crossbow, fire it and switch to a melee weapon or freely dodge away. But once its spent, that’s it, it take stamina and an animation to start and finish for the weapon to be ready again. It could even have a relatively short range and large amounts of Armor Penetration as well. But their utility with similar bolt types as arrows would be advantageous for anyone to use them, even non-agility builds.

Though they should be 100% agility. And… I wouldn’t put it too far for bows to split up some of its damage more with strength modifiers to go for a bit more realism and diversity. Especially with some ‘warbows’ that would benefit even a little more. Though still mostly agility of course.

Forgive the little tangent, but the thread is about ideas so I doubt many would mind. :grin:
