Every reason you’ve given is because YOU get bored. YOU get frustrated by others’ builds. YOU don’t care what happens. Not the feelings of anyone else. You’ve never once given any thoughts to anyone but yourself. This is why the matters of one individual’s opinions on server wipes, or anything for that matter, are not valid. This is not a matter of one individual’s opinions on how to play the game. This is why Funcom can not and will not make a decision of this caliber so lightly. It’s just foolish to wipe the servers without first making a calculated decision. It’s a matter of losing a loyal player base or not. The only thing that should matter is their bottom line.
It’s foolish to think I’m the only one with this opinion, I doubt seriously I’m the only one that gets board with this game after a while.
I get frustrated with blatant TOS violations by people that seem to think the public server they are playing on is theirs. And the TOS simply doesn’t apply to them.
I’m one of the most courteous players you’ll ever meet.
I’d agree but it is easy to see I’m not the only one with this opinion, but I’m not going to write like I speak for anyone but myself.
Server mergers. They did a great job calculating that decision.
Now if someone has been playing none stop on a server for several years, how big is their compound by now? How many of their unique items are on public display and well lit? How big is their petting zoo? How much of the content they have bought over the years is out on display? Just what % of the public server do they think is theirs?
Did you ever see his buildings, @DeaconElie ?
They are not short of amazing.
I can understand why @jmk1999 wouldn’t want a wipe. He’s not your average builder. I wouldn’t want his buildings wiped either.
What I wouldn’t mind to see wiped were gigantinc sandstone cubes that stand there forever.
Sounds like his builds are more suited to a private server or single player.
Now for me it’s size and fps suckers. I’ve seen some gorgeous keeps on cliffs that looked so nice. No need to encase the cliff in foundation stones to make a monolith. And a wizards tower is hardly Hogwarts.
“Oh his builds are so pretty, so well thought out”, so covering 1/5 of a map square. A build being beautiful in no way forgives it being a TOS violation. Yet another PVE issue.
That is why we can’t have nice things. If an admin spent an hour on any PVE public server, quite a few players would think there had been a server wipe. That is how common place I think TOS violating builds are on PVE.
He builds well, not big, @DeaconElie .
you’re mixing apples and pears
When the servers go down, it’s just over and it doesn’t matter what character I have.
a wipe is something else, there I lose everything and I would have to start from scratch if I wanted to play … and relearn everything - i.e. 2 years of playing is gone
Exactly. The merge was one thing, but to wipe an entire server would not only wipe all the physical work, but the character progression as well. My point wasn’t just about losing buildings, it was about losing the very entirety of your work and progress. The merge was just a taste of all that. We did nothing wrong, but lost everything because we were on the wrong server number. I looked at the list and it seemed to me that all PvE NA servers basically took the even numbers and merged them into the odds. We were told to go to a new server and rebuild, losing all placed thralls, all space we claimed for our bases, etc. simply because we drew the wrong number. It clearly wasn’t based upon population as we had an healthy population. After that, only a handful of people returned to rebuild on the new server. So if a merger where you got to KEEP your character progress was enough to kill most of the player base, what do you think a a straight up wipe would do that would take your character away? Yup. People would lose all energy to even make ANY progress. That’s the only thing that kept me going on official… knowing I always got to keep my character progression no matter what.
Exactly all our pretty lianeeles that was super rare
I can ping 60th level in 2 weeks. I can max all skills and have all knowledge unlock on a modded server; 350 level, in 6 months. I can get all the dungeons done in 3 months. What were you doing the took 2 years?
I’m sorry I don’t, can’t feel your pain. I can’t count how many times I have started from scratch.
The merger was in reference to how well funcom calculates an action before taking it.
“I can” is all see. You have made it all about you once again. It’s not about YOU, it’s about all of us.
well said @jmk1999
Because I assume, since I’m nothing special, if I can do it anyone can. Are you saying you can’t do all that? Or any player can’t?
Once again, I am not going to write as if I speak for anyone save myself. Why do you not get that?
You speak for yourself, Keldy speaks for themselves, MarcosC speaks for their self, and so on.
What about those of us that want server wipes? Our opinions somehow don’t count because it’s not what you want? You know the road you keep stamping your foot on goes both ways, right? How are you not making it all about what you want?
Does that make it sound less about me?
Because every example you make to justify wipes seems to only be about you. As you’ve said, you don’t speak for anyone else. So if you don’t speak for anyone else, then surely you must notice that most people don’t actually want server wipes, especially on PvE. And yes… I understand it all completely. There are a few that want wipes, yes, but there’s many more who don’t. As I’ve mentioned already, Funcom will never wipe a server without just cause. Just because you can deal with it and actually enjoy starting over doesn’t mean the vast majority will agree with you. It’s not a black or white/all or nothing matter.
You’re constantly trying to prove to everyone why your opinion is best, when in actuality, it’s not. Many people don’t wanna grind for ages to get items and recipes they already got once. In fact, I know some people who have played for ages and tear down their bases and build new bases with the resources they already collected. I’m actually planning such a move on my siptah server. Just because you’re well established doesn’t mean you can’t continue to enjoy playing on a server without cluttering it up unnecessarily. Much of your animosity towards other players seems to stem from personal experiences that you felt slighted over. Please stop projecting your feelings on others. It gets old, depressing, excessively negative, and annoying to constantly see you complaining about anything and everything you don’t like or agree with. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has noticed this with your posts.
But it’s not, it’s simply the language I am using, why do you not get they. If you sub I and me for us and we the meaning wouldn’t change.
I have no more idea what most people want then you do.
And it doesn’t mean they wont either.
A wipe IS an all or nothing matter.
No it’s just not yours. I’ve not once claimed it was the best.
In your opinion. You do get you’re not the only one that is allowed an opinion or think they are right, right?
I plan on doing a complete rebuild on my keep on the public server I play on once test shuts down.
Not sure what is going on witt the private server I’m on, everyone seems to be off in to other games right now. None the less once this goes live I’m taking a break.
Set I wish.
I don’t have any animosity toward other players, not sure why you think I do.
You’re just going to have to explain that one to me.
So I’m supposed to like and enjoy it ![]()
That also describes 80% of the threads on this forum.
Now just why did you feel motivated to make this personal? Why put the spot light on me and not my argument?
It’s more an issue that any topic that arises about anything related to one of your buzz topics (building, player behavior, server wipes, etc.) instantly is a completely negative viewpoint from you. You never consider others’ points of view and constantly downplay any sort of rationality that goes against anything you deem to be the only “logical” method of dealing with said topic. You even made a topic threatening other players on your server that you’d get them reported and banned. A server that you never even mentioned with your warning, thereby making your threat oddly weird and one sided. Your ideology on how the game should be moderated and handled is very skewed and bias towards whatever you feel is the necessary way to play. You’ve made it abundantly clear when you followed me into multiple topics, and even now, say you feel I should play on private servers because I don’t like to make box bases like you do (which you took offense to immediately). This isn’t about making it personal. I’m just tired of reading your negative views whenever you go on your tirades. Try considering multiple view points when you post, lest it will always sound like it’s all about you and what you want. Have you ever considered that maybe much of what angers you about others’ play style isn’t their problem, but rather yours?
Well, I think you need to put some brine on that bobo.
When you make it personal you’ve lost the argument.
Have I ever said anything bad about you?
Have I ever made it about you?
Have I ever made a list of things I find intolerable about you?
No? Then maybe you might aught to step because and evaluate why you seemed to need to do that to me. K? This stopped having anything to do with server wipes, and became about your personal grudge with me several posts ago.
Then don’t. Sounds like a self inflicted wound to me.
I do not have and never have had issues with peoples playing styles unless their style violates the TOS.
Now I have made my point perfectly clear. I have tried to explain my position to you but you just wanted to be vindictive, you wanted to be hostile, and you wanted to make it personal.
You know what you have managed to do? Make it all about me. I didn’t do that, you did.
Now if someone has been playing none stop on a server for several years,
How big is their compound by now? Oh I haven’t been building on it continues, rebuilt a few times. Redesign it for ascetics. Rebuilt it again when I got the new Bazaar pieces. Not really any bigger now then it ever has been
How many of their unique items are on public display and well lit? Well I do have a rare items gallery in my base so not on public display. And I don’t like a lot of light so use lanterns.
How big is their petting zoo? I got a couple leveled up horse and greater pet companions, but I don’t usually have any trainers set up.
How much of the content they have bought over the years is out on display? Can’t say I have ever used any complete set. Not much for parks or boulevards of statues.
Just what % of the public server do they think is theirs? No more then anyone else.
ETA: Little of those answers apply to me. I don’t do galleries of any kind. I don’t use horses and rarely have a pet companion. I generally build a keep in one build style:DLC. And I general try to limit the running ground in my keep as I can. Those were just off the cuff practical answers to legitimate questions.
Perhaps I was taking it personally, but no more than you have on numerous occasions. Especially when you made efforts to follow me to multiple topics and comment about how much you dislike my builds, including in this very topic, stating that I shouldn’t play on official without even knowing me personally.
That was basically a personal attack based upon your past views of me. I never made this personal until you did. Regardless, I have no plans to further pursue this matter. I’ve spoken my peace.
Now… back to the actual topic…
There’s quite a few long time players who play with the intent of keeping their footprint on the server minimal. They may make a decently large base and any outpost created is small. I myself do this very thing. I will have one main base and multiple small outposts. In fact, those outposts typically are meant to look immersive so as not to obstruct from the natural beauty of the environment. Your assumptions that players need to be wiped on PvE now more than ever stems from the fact that many of those players disrespect the server. I’ve found it easier to ignore many of them as they’ll be gone soon enough. The rest that continually refresh and are in obvious violation, I’ll report if they get in my way. Otherwise, I don’t let them bother me if they aren’t in an area I frequent. No need to let these people get under your skin and drive a vendetta against all servers, thereby punishing everyone.
I’m oblivious, I don’t know who you are, don’t care , and have never followed you. I may have responded to you, but that is it.
Are you serious? You took that as a personal attack? ya, problem is not me.
Will wonders never end, so do I. Except for the decently large thing, but I’m sure that is a matter of perspective.
I keep them small and try to blend them in. Some times I go for a theme, like my main base is in the east jungle so Khitan style seems right.
An ignored problem never goes away. And since you seem to read all my posts; you admitted it, you know how I feel about TOS enforcement.
Now do I believe funcom will ever wipe the servers? No. No matter how much good it may do a few.
Am I ever going to change my mind that servers need a set life span before a wipe, nope.
Ummm no. I like my base build.
Den, the development team lead, has already stated that there will not be a server wipe.
