Yes, this was the PvP. Or rather still is, just replace spear right click with sprint attack and roll or bow heavy shot and roll.
So nothing has changed. People still slash’n roll or shoot’n roll.
No one uses combos, because the dodge roll is free. There is no more penalty in using it. If you believe someone should just stand in place and “tank” a combo, then this is just horribly bad in the current system.
The dodge roll gets used to get out of hit stagger. Or to animation cancel the backswing of the bow or any other weapon attack.
Back in 2018/2019 people actually tanked some combos to regain stamina. Because going out of stamina was a death sentence. You were unable to do anything for 5 seconds. Enough time to finish someone off with a combo.
After horses got introduced they changed dodge roll count to 6 before going out of stamina. And this only for light armor. Ofc everyone went light armor + spear or daggers or whatever was lower TTK then. So stamina was more plentiful in regards to dodge rolls. The game developed more towards poke’n roll or slash’n roll.
Some time later stamina exhaustion penalty was reduced to 2.5 seconds because you could act again as soon as you regained stamina. Which was mostly used for, yes you can guess it, dodge roll.
Age of sorcery introduced rolling thrust. Rewarding poke’n roll or slash’n roll even more.
Now age of war basically removed stamina from the game. Rolling is free and you can spam it. Weapons have this incredibly high damage that can 1-3 shot you. Dodge spamming and poking with your weapon helps against that.
The people who try to use combos make themselves a target, because of dodge roll and unlimited stamina.
Two solutions would be to give all the other weapons more reach + more forward movement during combos or to nerf stamina and dodge rolling.
I tested AoW Chapter 3 combat, used the 1h sword and my opponent was just happily dodge rolling A FULL COMBO without penalty. Every single hit. Dodge dodge dodge dodge.
