Battle Pass challenges extremely fickle!

Basic Info:

Platform: PlayStation 4
Issue Type: Battle Pass
Game Mode: Single Player
Map: Exiled Lands

Bug Description:

Challenges from the Battle Pass don’t trigger properly. “Defeat [insert name of being here]” failed to trigger after killing individuals of the named group(s) yesterday, and now “Head hunt: Deliver a skull” didn’t complete, either, even though I have given the mage hunters a mage’s skull. There may also be more challenges affected.

Bug Reproduction:

Try to complete any one challenge. There’s a high chance that it doesn’t count or even get completed.

Greetings!
Just out of curiosity, did you deliver the head from an event boss sorcerer or the head from a regular camp sorcerer? The game might be counting them as different items.
You may also try it on a local game, with Admin privileges.
I hope it gets fixed for you, I like the BP prizes.

Good hunting!

I’m on Singleplayer, and it has been regular camp mages.
Besides, it’s not just these challenges (both delivering a skull and delivering a body are affected for starters) but others as well, like killing n specimens of a particular being (for some reason sometimes they don’t count, either).

The only problem is that I haven’t found a way to reliably trigger this behavior yet in order to be able to figure out what may be going wrong here.

Never got the tattoo one to work. Made a dozen, didn’t count any.

For me the game gets harder to play with every update. Now I log in, do a few challenges, check my transatorystone bases, and out again. Hour or so every other day, when I had been playing 6-10 hours daily; depending on weather and chores.

Greetings Exile,

Thank you for your report. Can you share with us some details about your saved game?

How old (approximately) is this current single-player save?
Did you experience this issue with the first Chapter of the Battle Pass as well?
Have you increased the number of buildings on your map before starting to notice the issue?

We await your reply.

This is a relatively fresh game (initiated well into Chapter I of Age of Sorcery).
As for Chapter I, there hadn’t been any issues that I had become aware of; IIRC every challenge that I had been doing then completed normally. This issue had first appeared some time after the launch of Chapter II, and as far as extending my base is concerned, I couldn’t notice any increase or any correlation whatsoever. As I have mentioned before, I haven’t found any patterns so far as to why and how they are occurring and so cannot provide any details on how to reproduce these issues.

Anyway, FYI, I have constructed my base (and am still continuing to expand it) in the immediate neighborhood of the Place of Summoning, and I have disabled any restrictions on where structures can be built. I have also begun to corrupt my character’s attributes (again, no noticeable pattern), however, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong.

However, the one thing that has actually improved is the frequency of any hangs when accessing the Battle Pass: With the introduction of Chapter II the number of occurrences has decreased significantly (where they had been the norm prior to that, they now occur only once in a while). Completely shutting down the PS4 instead of switching to standby could be of help here as well, maybe because the swap space isn’t getting so crowded that way.

Greetings,

Thank you for the detailed information. We will ask our team to investigate it.

Have a great day!

I’ve done some additional investigations at my end, and as it appears, these challenges not counting is directly linked to problems with network connectivity.
Today I’ve attempted to complete Battle Pass challenges that were presented to me, but again they didn’t count (some game updates that I had running failed as well), but after resetting the network connection (I had to restart hostapd on my WiFi gateway), any events related to current challenges started to register normally again. This could be the same issue that is occasionally causing the Battle Pass itself to hang when being invoked (i. e. you are opening the page and get a network failure, but instead of timing out and declaring a network failure, it hangs ad infinitum).

Some checks need to be included here that can detect any kind of network failure and react accordingly (alert the user of a problem with the network, and once connectivity gets restored, automatically sync both the challenges and the Battle Pass without having to reload the game - possibly by replaying an internal event log against the current challenges so that these events can be accounted for - any active challenges get updated or even completed, and anything that doesn’t match the current challenges simply gets discarded).
This would greatly help improve the user experience, because it would take away quite a lot of hassle with such problems.

Had this happen to me too, I think on Single Player on my PS5, where I have very little if any building pieces (as just using Single Player to quickly get Battle Pass challenges out the way for a different account). They were also regular (t1-4) Sorcerers. It feels like the fact that you’re getting a body (KOed Sorcerer Exile) and a head (Dead Sorcerer Exile) tends to make the code look for another of the same kind and not count the different one. I went away and came back the following 24 hour block, and the challenge returned anew, but with 1 of 2 remaining, and tried again and it worked, I think, maybe with the same offering (i.e. a second dead sorcerer) and it then cleared the challenge.
