Build Piece Misalignment Creep

I’ve tried searching for similar reports and I don’t remember this acting similarly throughout the years…but is anyone else noticing build pieces (let’s use foundations as the simplest subset) very gradually losing alignment over a long run? Maybe I’m crazy but I’ve tried running a few different controlled tests without a single mod and each time I seem to encounter the same issue.

Start a line of solely square foundations, run them out in a large rectangle or something similar to a game of snake, then watch the snap points (plural) as you later close the loop. There will be two, with an offset between them forming a gap. Sometimes this gap can be hard to notice but if you look carefully, the arrow jumps side to side as it tries to choose either the first-place piece or the last. Sometimes it can be quite large and obvious.

There doesn’t seem to be any sort of correlation to terrain height shifts or location, present in modded and vanilla environments, server or single player. There’s no other pieces included (not introduced by miscounting triangles and squares), no fence foundations to create any offset, and the more defined the edges of a piece the easier it is to see it.

Here’s an example using a modded foundation for maximum edge definition, though again, this is easily reproduced using base game assets without any mods or server/.ini configuration.

I have noticed some foundation wonkieness myself on console.

I have tried to lay foundation pieces outlining where my outermost walls will be of a base and noticed as i make the track back to connect back up to the starting point that the foundations are for some reason offset and will not match up with the starting series of foundation blocks.

And yes. i have even put down guide foundations through the middle to make sure everything is centered and when one section has 5 foundation blocks so does the opposite side and i still end up with offsets.

For example:

You know a box has 4 sides.

When you draw the basic box on paper just using the typical four lines that all connect back up to make up the shape and you get the last line down and realize that last line stops slightly short or is “offset” slightly and your box or “circuit” cannot be completed because the last line does not match up with the starting point. Even if you are using a ruler or some other device to ensure there is no deviation.

I never had this issue before, but when i tried to make a new base after the LS update (could be a coincedence) i noticed i couldn’t make a clean outline with foundations anymore because they just never would match up with the starting point no matter what i did. I ended up giving up on making a new base and just remodeling the old base a bit because it was pointless frankly when i couldn’t even make a simple lined ground floor plan with foundations because of this issue.

Took forever to replace the wall around my base to have it meet back up in the front to put a gate.. It would always be about a hair off-set so nothing would match back up. And yes i even used guide foundations connected TO my base to make sure that the wall was exactly soo many foundations out so the defending wall would be center and uniform.

It’s too much of a headache to make a new base till this issue is fixed.

Would anyone else be willing to try on their end and report back? Or tell me I’m nuts and it’s always been like this, that’s fair. I REALLY don’t remember this sort of thing being the norm, though.

That has been happy for awhile.

Even more pronounced with wedges.

There seems to be a few pixel variance in placement. This one used to have a building made of Khitan pieces and the center hexagon of the tower let rain and sun right thru, the wedges didn’t even pretend to meet in the middle. There may have been issues with walls built off fence foundations rather than block foundations as well.

It doesn’t seem nearly as prominent as it once was, on the PStato at least.

Hate it for you that it is coming up again.
