Conan Exiles Dedicated Server Launcher (Official Version: 1.7.11 / Beta: 1.7.12)

If you stop the server, does the “Test Port” returns green on all ports?

Also: Just to be sure, you are not using the Launcher 1.0.42? (That one had some bug with the ports)

I am using 1.0.41, i was using 1.0.3 for a long time, server was running fine for 8 months, it was updating game and mods 2 times a day all on it own, I can log in LAN mods say all ok and lets me in the game, then a couple weeks ago i was told server not coming up, so i tried different Server Launcher versions, 1.39,1.04,1.041, yes i get 4 green lights before starting server, i get 4 green lights after shutting the server down, test port availabilty still says sucess all 4 green lights still.

I have put my PC in the DMZ and still have problem connecting to it, the DMZ allows all
incomming connections, but still can not connect.

I think a windows update messed with incomming connection, checking firewall rule Conan dedicated server is set for public, private and domain, it should allow any connection from anywhere
Discord says server has come online, and shows server online here at TopConanServer https://topconanservers.com/server/56373974

PS its a new router new IP address, so its a new server on TopconanServers, so not many votes yet ;p

First and foremost a big THANK YOU for developing this tool. I wish more developers would follow in your footsteps.

Short and simple I was not able to get the server to work using custom ports (game client port 7754 / Steam Query Port 27054). These were opened properly in my firewall, the server launcher confirmed this with all green lights. However the server was not viewable in the in-game browser nor was I able to direct connect to it (via lan IP or external from a varied Internet source). I had other game servers using 7777 and 27015 which is my whole reason for using custom values. I re-configured some other servers and once I configured Conan with the defaults - everything worked fine.

So my questions are

  • What are the valid port ranges for the Game Client Port and Steam Query Port?
  • Is this port range limited by the game or by Steam?

Thank you again for supporting the community with such a amazing tool!

Hello there.
I don’t have much experience with this, and only installed this server just for the heck of it, to also run the game client on the same machine (version 1.0.41). I had some hiccups along the way, but just managed to set things up right, so wanted to explain and maybe help some others out.

the tl/dr. One problem is that the launcher isn’t saving changes made in the Ports section to file after the initial install. The first time you run the launcher and save/install the server, it does; but if you have problems connecting to the game later and try to change the Ports from the launcher, it will revert after port forwarding test and subsequent reload of the launcher, so I had to check and manually add/change them to Engine.ini (details in OP above). Sometimes they’re still old values, sometimes blank.
Also noted it doesn’t save the Server Name and Admin Password the first time. So after installing the server (let it run), I shut it down, and launcher, re-open the launcher, add them in through the launcher and save changes. Fine from then on.

The long version, for the record, and to point something out. The first time I installed the server, I had no clue whatsoever what I was doing but it worked fine, first try, direct connected to it and played on it for a while. Later I went to back up that server and install a fresh install, to mess around with different settings/mods and couldn’t get things to work at all. Tried about 3 fresh starts. The server runs, but I either couldn’t see it in server list, or no servers show up at all, official, nothing.
I realised that the first time that it worked, I actually had steam running while installing. You get the few procedure errors, just click ok and I could connect to it fine. But something felt off. I just now tried a fresh install without steam running, set up the ports manually in engine.ini after an initial hiccup, and not only did it show up in the serverlist, it is showing with 7ms ping where the previous install was varied between 24-36ms.

Sorry for the long post, I thought maybe some of you more experienced people who had the server running a while might not have seen the issue, or newbies hit the same road block.

n.b. my current ports (working) UDP 7779,7780,27016

Sorry for the late answer, for some reason I had gotten logged out from the forum and did not realize, so obviously I was not notified of the new messages… and the week was kind of hectic!

That should really not have any impact: The various versions of the launcher supported various features, but all it does really is to make it easier to edit the ini file and monitor the server. It’s not doing anything fancy with the launch, you could do the same with a batch file (or double clicking the server executable).

PS its a new router new IP address, so its a new server on TopconanServers (…)

What was the old router, what is the new router, any reason for the change?

You’re welcome, I was getting frustrated seeing people struggling with trying to run their own dedicated servers, that being said, you should also thank all the people who made available their own tools or scripts, because looking at the existing helped

The port issue, was that using the launcher version 1.0.42 ?

Regarding the range, I’m not quite sure really, I’ve not tried any vastly different values, I stayed in the 7xxx and 27xxx ranges when I did my tests, but I don’t see any technical reason why very different values would not be allowed. If anyone knows, please share!

When you write “initial install”, are you talking about the game server or the launcher?

Basically, if you change any value WHILE the server is running, there’s a significant chance that the game server will overwrite it at some point (that’s why the first version of the launcher was disabling the edit fields when the server was running, but some users complained about that).
If that’s what happened, then maybe I could add tooltips that say DO NOT EDIT IF THE SERVER IS RUNNING  ?

I just now tried a fresh install without steam running, set up the ports manually in engine.ini after an initial hiccup, and not only did it show up in the serverlist, it is showing with 7ms ping where the previous install was varied between 24-36ms.

Oo

I don’t really see how the presence of Steam could impact the ping time… weird!

@Anarchy I had no problem connecting to your server from the TopConanServers link on the page, it detected the list of mods, restart the client with the Age of Calamitous intro screen, and I was able to build a tower on the border of your landing area.

Not sure why your other players can’t connect, but as we say “worked for me”!

Initial install of the game server, basically after clicking the big disk icon bottom right on the launcher when you don’t have a server yet. And I always changed the ports when it wasn’t running. If I had any problem connecting, I shut it down, change settings in launcher (which wasn’t working though), then run the server again.

About steam and ping issue, I just imagined maybe something ended up using the same port in that case, but I’m just taking a guess.

Hmmm is it possable it tells me server not responding because i am trying to connect from the same wifi?

When i click on the TopConnaServer link I get server not responding error, good to know it works outside my network.

Thanks for the help

I honestly don’t know :frowning:

(I hope this DDOSS thing is going to be resolved, I’ve lost all the notifications, I’m not seeing when messages are being answered either…)

I have recently started a new dedicated server on Windows using the DedicatedServerLauncher 1.0.41. The server starts fine and I can connect to it via the direct connect option using the IP. However, the server does not show in the server list.

I have also noticed that the server configuration is not being saved by the DedicatedServerLauncher. The Server Name, Server Password, and Server Admin password will not save in the launcher. I can enter them fine and click save. Everything looks fine until I start the server. As the server is starting the Server Name, Server Password, & Admin Password are removed from the DedicatedServerLauncher.

I have also tried to modify the ServerSettings.ini file directly but once the server loads the file is overwritten with the default settings.

Holly molly!

There was indeed a bug, and it happened only for the very first entry of a ini file section the first time it got created.

I’m currently testing a new version, but hopefully that should solve a number of issues for the first time users…

For all of you who signaled weird issues on first clean installs of the DedicatedServerLauncher, could you just give a try at this version, download it, copy it somewhere, run it, change the parameters you normally change, press the SAVE button, and see if the parameters are sticking correctly?

Thanks

1.0.44 (29 November 2019)

That was such a dumb bug, basically a missing & character on one of the code paths…

Working fine here (1.0.44). Saves first run, even changes to ports after shutting down and relaunching everything.

How do I configure the Launcher to point to an existing installation of the dedicated server (installed via the Steam GUI)? Is there a config file I need to edit somewhere or do I need to place the .EXE in a certain location? Or is the only way to use this tool to have it download the server files itself?

Ok, thanks for the feedback, I moved 1.0.44 to be the new official version.

You can’t configure the launcher to do that, but it is very simple to import your existing installation:

  • Install the Server Launcher somewhere where you want your server to be
  • Press the install button, that will create a default installation
  • When the server is running, stop it with the same button
  • Locate the game install by pressing one of the blue buttons at the bottom left (that will open the config or log folder)
  • Overwrite the newly created Saved folder with yours (that’s all the ini files, game db, logs, etc…)

Normally at this point the Launcher UI should have updated with all the right information, like the server name, ports, passwords, etc…

The one thing you need to do manually is the mods setup if you had any installed.

Q: Can I play Conan Exiles on the machine that hosts my server?

A: It used to be possible (using the -nosteam command line option), but in the current state it seems that the Game Server steam integration is conflicting with the game itself.

By the way, ^ is not true. I and my husband play on a server hosted on my computer (I’m on the computer that hosts it). It is possible. It’s a pain with every update lol, but it is possible.

Ok, so, do you have some recommendation on things you have/had to do to make that work?
I tried on my own machines, and I miserably failed
