Just want to see how people feel about “Fatalities” (the execution animation that plays when a defeated enemy enters a dazed state and is attacked again by the player) in their current state on Official Servers (not counting private servers because the admin has a server setting to toggle them off if desired). Don’t seem to be able to use an actual voting system on the forums, so how about this?
Respond with a frowny face if they make you sad or angry and you want them switched off (either permanently or at at least until they are reworked and not ruining combat).
Respond with a thumbs up if you like them and don’t want them switched off.
Comments welcome, because it’s usually not that black and white.
The risk of dying in *Conan* is part of the thrill. You risk losing everything, and that adds an adrenaline rush to combat. I think that if this only happened during a fight, it would be fine. Besides, the *Age of Sorcery* update gave us the ability to retrieve our corpses and all our gear.
BUT, when a character dies because of an elevator landing or simply upon loading the game—even though you logged out safe and sound at your base—it is incredibly infuriating! You lose all your items due to bugs and can’t get them back. However, that is an issue of bug fixing, not the game’s core concept.
That is why I am against removing the possibility of dying and losing everything.
I have been caught in a fatality that I did not intend to initiate so much.. mobbed and then killed without any means of recourse.
Only once has another player taken advantage of my plight but enough that it pissed me off that I could do nothing, getting crippled and staggered after having no control is enough.
It should be optional, in that I initiate it with a separate button press that I choose. Otherwise, I endorse turning it off on Officials.
It does not add to my gameplay, it is a constant possible hindrance that I dread.
They make purges or anything where you are fighting multiple targets very difficult. Makes me angry everytime I get stuck doing the animation when I didn’t want to.
I think you have misunderstood the question. This is not about us dying and losing things - everyone in this thread would vote to keep that. This is about the ‘Fatality’ animations that trigger when you kill an enemy.
Wait until you get stuck in one. The enemy is there, looking at you waiting for the final blow, but you’re frozen. Even if you have a thrall, it might not aggro while in that state. You’re stuck in place and can’t move. Vulnerable and defenseless. Your thral can be dying, you can be dying and there’s NOTHING that you can do about it. You’re just stuck. That’s much worse than initiating a fatality inadvertly but it does happen.
Now imagine that happening several times. That’s when you want fatalities off until they are fixed. That has nothing to do with dying and lose your kit. That’s just part of the game. Getting stuck in a fatality shouldn’t be.
The button used to initiate the Fatality needs to be reassigned away from Heavy Attack button (R2 on ps5). I have said numerous times it should be reassigned to another key or button which is irrelevant in a combat situation, such as the harvest/gather button (□ on ps5). Give players the agency to control when and if we trigger them, because too many people their find initiation is either clumsy, unwanted at that time, breaks the flow of combat, and often lands them in compromising situations.
Thanks Morticia, as DanQuixote said, I was not referring to all deaths, I was referring specifically to the “Fatality” system (fatalities) - I’ve edited to the post to clarify.
My thoughts: the animations are cool but they totally disrupt the flow of combat in their current iteration. The animation often does not trigger neatly when it should, leaving you vulnerable either while stuttering and waiting for it to trigger properly (which then gives you temporary immunity to attacks) or after the animation has ended, due to your inability to position yourself in response to the movements of other combatants. I believe players need more control over how they trigger and until this is resolved they should be turned OFF on official servers. I made the vote only for officials as private servers have an option for the admin to turn them off.
Idea: would it be possible to only allow them to trigger when no other NPC is within aggro range? Imagine taking down all but one of a mob of enemies, then the last one is defeated and the epic fatality animation triggers… and the lamentation begins.
