I couldn’t for the life of me get the game to run, until I disabled the Steam Beta Client. I was running into " dlmopen steamservice.so failed: steamservice.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or director" - which has happened before on older versions of the Steam client.
Disable the beta client and switch to the stable version, and things will work again.
