I am sorry if i appear aggressive when i ask this:
How many of the Razma’s Journals have you listened/read?
The story of the game is there, you just have to read the most of it. Razma’s journals are just a fair example of people missing a lot on the story.
If you do not know what i talk about, i’ll spoil an easy one for you. Go to Seperumaru and “Above 2 certain Blacksmiths and right next to a certain armorer” you will find one of the Razma’s journals.
How you did that? Removed bracelet?
I play this game from day 1 of Early Access and i still have not find a way to say “I have now completed the main story”.
I am the main story in this game. It is about how Conan cut me down from a cross and I wandered naked into the exiled lands and survived.
This little side show where you collect some things, then cry about the mummy not being there for you, then watching yourself walk off into the sunset and get deleted is a joke.
This is an open world sandbox game, not some single player storyline with quests and a finish line.
What’s the difference between doing these 2 things?
Bring up the game menu and click on RECREATE CHARACTER
Fight your way through The Black Keep and kill The Kinscourge for the Tears of Two Races. Go to The Sinkhole and kill the Undead Dragon for the Star of the Champion. Go to the Palace of the Witch Queen and kill The Witch Queen for the Mask of the Witch Queen. Brave the lava and snakemen of The Well of Skelos and kill the last serpentman for The Shining Trapezohedron. Travel to The Mounds and open the tome to The Barrow King, kill The King Beneath for the Diadem of the Giant-kings. Go to Gallaman’s Tomb and kill a giant crocodile for a Jagged Scourgestone Piece. Go to Buccaneer Bay and kill Gall/Hekkr for a Shattered Scourgestone Piece. Climb down into The Passage and kill the Sand Reaper Hive Queen for a Broken Scourgestone Piece. Travel to the Sandswept Ruins and create the Scourgestone from the 3 pieces. Climb up to the Altar of Chaosmouth and use it to combine all 6 items into The Keystone. Use The Keystone.
Both options delete your character, cause you to lose all of your structures and items, and force you to start over.
So what’s the point of doing that long drawn out quest when you can do the same thing with one click of the submenu?
The entire quest line leads you to figuring out that the true power is gained by walking the road least followed. You can take the guided tour and end up disappointed or unlock your true potential by accessing the admin panel and gaining control over your journey which allows you to do as you please and even summon the mummy you have so read about.
Not to be an annoying contrarian or anything but… I like that. Really like it. I think it’s a grimly funny and nihilistic message. And very REH. It doesn’t matter in the end if you were a mighty hero or a pathetic Exile Fighter I who was killed by some hero their first day in the exiled lands. It’s all the same, whether or not you think it was worth it is your decision. I also really like that the final boss is weak, it fits with the whole ancient races giving way to humanity theme.
I do understand why people don’t like these things though and appreciate I’m probably the weird one here
As for the other stuff. Agree it would be nice if unfinished bits were finished.
But there is a single-player storyline, quests and an ending. If they are going to mislead the player the entire playthrough by building up a narrative and not delivering, it is worthy of criticism. It is beyond me why people are so eager to defend poor game/narrative design and an incomplete game, I’m not saying they can’t praise other aspects of it. As I stated multiple times, I’m not expecting the scale of a single player game, just for them to complete their game that has been out for 5 years and they expect people to pay additional money for.
Agreed. While it is not important to me, I get that it is to other people. I do not think though, that they mislead, but are just lost about what to fulfill in the game itself.
As to the
Aspect, I am not sure where that fits into this narrative. The original storyline costs nothing to achieve, or am I wrong?
"YOU BUNCH OF XXX!!!
"THE WHOLE DISCUSSION IS GETTING WAY TOO???
"HOW COULD EACH ONE OF YOU IGNORE THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM COMPLETELY?
"AND NOW,
"LET THE MIGHTY DARK WIZARD OF ALL EXILED LANDS, which is me!, TELL YOU THE REAL PROBLEM WITH THE STORYTELLING.
"THAT IS -
(and the story ends here. Also how CE’s story ends.)
At a guess, from the ‘pay for BP/bazaar to fund further development’ which does feel a little questionable with regards to finishing a story element that was there on first launched and which still hasn’t been completed. For actual new features it’s a perfectly legitimate argument.
