When I get this, sometimes changing items or just stop build mode then going back in can fix it… or placing same item in another spot then trying again will allow you. Its an annoying bug.
Abuse? No no, it was not like that. Believe me. I’ve worked very hard all week, and believe me, you do not want to know what jobs I did. And then I spent all my money on sandstones and tried in vain to use the stones. The stone on the screenshot was my last attempt for a roof over my head. To buy this stone I even had to sell all my clothes. The result you can see on the screenshot.

Are you in a clan? This issue can sometimes trigger when players have joined a clan.

Did a server restart or logging back into the server fix this issue, or is it still happening?
After the restart it works again. Let’s see how long. Thanks for the hint
