The first 2 challenges gave the correct rewards but then I didnt get the sword nor the daggers, then I got the wrong prize and no improved tannery, then I got steelfire instead of the steel weapon.

There is something going on as @Venus1 points out.
Now we know it affects new players as well as players that completed the journey.
If i remember right, you will not get the items, you get the recipes to craft it. Check your blacksmith if he is able to craft the new items.
Yes, this is the case. The knowledge is what you earn, not actual items. Improved Tanner’s Table is located in the same section as the regular one and will require materials to craft it. The blacksmith bench has the new weapons.
