Update Destroys fighting system

,

Except when you do and you win, and you reap the rewards. Never done it before? Maybe you should try.

No, that is what you think a solo player should be focusing on, and it’s only one dimension of playing solo. There are many dimensions to it. Skill in combat is another dimension, including direct combat. You might not be winning a 10 on 1 or a 5 on 1 (or maybe you might, I’ve heard of a case of one guy raiding 8 people successfully), but the skill to take on 2 or 3 people at once is not unheard of and always useful to have.

Arguably the most important things are persistence, hard work and a willingness to fail before you achieve success. Given all that, you can polish your skills to the point of being able to handle direct combat even when you’re outnumbered to a degree. No one is invincible, of course, but damned if they don’t make you believe they’re invincible.

That story about the lone guy raiding a group of 8 was a real one. Ultimately, you choose how you want to play the game, and if you can make your style work without cheesing the game, then it’s just as ‘correct’ as any other. Maybe in your experience, pure skill in combat wasn’t viable. But in mine, it has been, and I like that it’s an option.

I don’t think resorting to ad hominems is going to convince those who (in your opinion) are wrong.

From what I’ve seen, they’re going to want to put that through their PR persons’ filters.

Yes no change here. Sad player numbers as always.

If you compare it to the “competition” aka Ark and Rust, big uffs for Conan Exiles. I wonder what these 2 games do better than Conan. Conan has better visuals and animations. The combat system is also more interesting (at least compared to Ark’s player grabbing and dropping lol).

Even if people don’t like the updates, most of them will stay because it’s there favorite game. I can be wrong but we are maybe coming at the point where only the core of the community is continuing to play the game. More the time pass and more we approach this point if it’s not already the case. So even with bad updates now most of ppl will certainly continu to play it. We play the game first because of the universe. The game is already complete even if it’s far from perfect. Some period i wanted rp, some period pvp, some other do big construction, some explore the lore… And in every face of its starmetal facets, it was interesting. This game was so complete at this level even if nothing is perfect, nothing is perfect! I really hope the plan for the pvp will surprise us because actually it looks like they took away the pvp part and the game is no more complete its only stay the pve part. We need to be reassured. Maybe more explaination. A real show, with a video and a true pvp exemple (3or5rounds to see what it look accompagned by explaination) of there project and thats it…

No its not. In Planetside and Cs:go you need a good team to be successfull. This are tactics games where everyone in the group has its role. In higher elos you need to cover different positions very well and give calls. You need to know every corner of the map and how to throw a grenade against or over a wall at an exact point so that it will bounce correctly and do what it supose to do. Ofc you can zerg in Planetside and roll with the masses. But often times its more a mess then you are really achieving anything. In a team you specialize in 1 or 2 roles and you work with your team. Healing, repairing, shielding or fighting, its much better and way more efficient than zerging, especially if you work with different squads. In the end the same goes for Conan Exiles. You might do well to survive alone by hidding your little base in a hole and going sneaky, doing alliances to trades or going complety invisible, but then all you do in the end is playing alone and avoiding everyone which becomes very boring very fast. The game is much more enjoyable when playing with some friends. And you will be able to achieve a lot more.

Thank you for proving my point.

Everyone here thus far is asking to be able to 1v3-5 people if they are ‘good enough’.

It should be possible and it is possible in other games. I can 3vs1 or 5vs1 in Csgo. But only if I have a better gun or aim as them or learned how to outplay them to pick them off one by one. But the thing is, that I am not able to do it all the time even though I am good. And I have to learn certain tactics. And I don´t learn them while playing alone. I learn them while playing in a coordinated team. Thats what I am trying to say. I don´t mind people playing alone if thats what they prefer. And if they are having a good day or are in general a good fighter they should be able to kill 2 or 3 other players. But they shouldn´t be able to do it all the time. And stuff like raiding is another topic of its own, because for that you are not only need to know how to fight but also know a lot how basebuilding works, where the weekspots of a base are and so on.

But in generell yes, you should be able to do it alone but not all the time and ofc its always easier, much more fun and productiv in a team.

No. We are arguing that at the actual moment, there are no roles to be filled, no combat style to master(poke and roll is the only one) no weapon to specialise (9 of 13 weapons are useless at the moment) and there is no reward in training pvp for hours and hours, because there’s nothing more to practice.
Even the horse pvp we trained. While there is no individual skill to it(srsly, you can instakill another player while mounted, you don’t need skill to run with a horse with the right click pressed), there’s some team skill to stay together and etc…

But this new combat system has nothing. Now i feel like an acrobatic clown having to roll everytime when getting stuck into an animation.
There are no more fainting, healing in combat, smart movements. All we have to do is spam mouse button or being totally passive waiting for the oponent to try to hit you and miss, because it’s very very easy to dodge a single hit in this game. And then you punish him.

Even hyenas are a challenge now. Lol

in the past, conan exiles had this skill gap that allowed 1 skilled player to fight 3-5 enemies.
a short time ago (2.3) it was already very difficult to fight against 3 opponents, even with the animation cancel. and when we put the horse in the equation, the skill is completely thrown aside. it is impossible for you to win a 3x1 on horseback. and even 2x1 you need purely luck if you have the same level of equipment as your opponent.

so then. your cs example illustrate the current problem with that game.
Removing the skillplay of the game is to remove the feeling of reward from the player.

Well Rust is a shooter so from my perspective no surprise there.

The comparison between Ark and Conan is a bit better but it could be as simple as the general public is more drawn to Dinos than the Conan lore. People may play it for awhile but ultimately they could just be gravitating to what is a more personally appealing lore (not that I agree in the least) to their own interest. Conan is a bit of a subculture and would always I suspect have lower numbers if forced to be lore friendly. Add laser weapons and stuff and you could draw more players, at the expense of selling out the core idea.

If there was a hack n slash survival game out there that was doing better than CE (maybe there is) that would be a more appropriate point of comparison.

Just a couple more years of development. Both Ark and Rust very toxic games. Remember Ark when they announced map travel…

No nudity, so there is a huge player demographic that CE does not get, players between 12 and 18, that think Dinos are “cool”, and the American sub-culture passion for killing with guns.

Frankly, one of the reasons I DO play CE is to avoid that demographic. You have to lower your IQ 50 points just to listen to them talk in open chat.

I dont play CE solo in SP. Next. . .

Besides it being conan lore, i think the general public is more drawn to medieval/fantasy settings than dinos.
Conan is closer to medieval/fantasy than the others.
Conan is the only survival game with a great story behind (have you ever read what is the exile, what happened there?)

I think it was just because ark came first and rust is a more casual survival shooter.

Finally we agree on something

There is probably a missed audience as well who see sword and sorcery without the sorcery. Fantasy games in general would probably not do so well without the magic.

Despite being the father of Sword and Sorcery, REH’s Conan Stories have very little if any magic or sorcery in them.

In every case of sorcery an object is used or an entity is involved. For example, when Conan puts on the protective belt to fight a group of mages, it is quite obviously a force field belt. In the Slithering Shadow when Conan asks where the food comes from, the Stygian woman says its from a device no one understands, creating the food from unknown energies. I dunno about you all but that sounds like Star Trek food replicators to me, just about half a century before Gene Roddenberry came up with the idea.

If you really dive into the stories (which I kind have during the last hurricane) you start to see that the Conan Hyborian age is NOT an age of Fantasy. But a Post Apocalyptical setting where technology is lost (and sometimes recovered in small bits). With the Gods being alien entities.

Makes sense when you also know that the Hyborian lore and the HP Lovecraft Cthulu mythos are in the same canon universe.

Its really quite fascinating that all this was written in the mid to late 1930s.

I’m a bit late to the discussion here but: Wow, we really brought up Planetside as a comparison?

Some of the sweaty heavies are the literal definition of a 1-man army. Teamwork may be important to achieve the greater goal… but the top players don’t need the help of a team to clear out a room and keep it held against a stupid silly amount of people. I am surprised that you actually think these guys are playing alone and doing some kind of skulky game of hide and seek. Some of them have the balls to go to enemy bases alone just to farm the enemy because they know they can get away with it.

For the record, I would not consider Planetside a good comparison to Conan Exiles. Ignoring the fact that it’s an FPS, we have infinite lives with no consequence for dying, guaranteed resources, a fairly level playing field in terms of equipment, teamwork useful but optional, and much higher populations at each fight. Realism completely out the window. Oh, and there’s actually good healing in Planetside.

While I’m for the argument that a higher skill ceiling is a good thing, I’d say Planetside is a different animal entirely and doesn’t really serve as a good argument for or against our situation, except as an example of how skill gaps can manifest in a game’s playerbase. Planetside’s also one of my favorite games, if not my favorite, so I’m not knockin’ the game out of salt. I just genuinely don’t think it’s a good comparison.

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic".
You interpreted it as something technological like Star Trek due to your preferences and previous references.

Conan and cthulhu mythos are not set in the same canon universe***.
although both writers make some cameos relating each other’s work, the works are not part of the same canonical universe.

You may want to say that the Hyborian era takes place on earth somewhere between 13,000 BC ~ 9,500 BC and that the mythos of cthulhu takes place on earth too …
But in the same way several works take place on the “real” earth.

although both writers make some cameos relating each other’s work, the works are not part of the same canonical universe.

In black colossus, Mitra makes an “appearance” similar to the Christian God.

In The Frost Giant’s Daughter, Atali, the daughter of Ymir call upon her father to save her.
The relationship and stories of the Hyborian era are closer to the mythological gods we know (Greeks, Egyptians, Nordics and etc.) than to alien gods.

But just as people in the real world create correlations between alien-astronauts and ancient gods, the same can be done with stories from the Hyborian era, but none of this is canon.
