if someone kill you, you are able to play around again
It seems that when there’s a queue for the server and you join it, your character freezes up as soon as you log in. You can’t do anything except press Enter and type in the chat; other than that, you can’t even press ESC or do anything else—you just have to wait to starve to death.
I am having the exact same issue on 1551. My wife as well. I’m going to spin up a dedicated server to see if the issue is replicated for me.
I have the same issue here, this always happen after we got a queue to join the sever

I just ran into this problem on 1990 server—I waited in a line of 19 people, and when I finally got in, the game froze. The only way out is to starve and die of thirst. Please look into this. If you want, I can send you some logs—just let me know where.
I’m having the same experience! Every time I connect to the server’s queue, I get the same problem!
Open console by pressing ` and type suicide into console, if that doesn’t fix it then hard reset your PC

Just as an FYI - I thought this issue was fixed as later in the evening when I logged back in, I could move normally. However, yesterday morning I went to log in and the issue returned. My wife and I have had enough and just spun up our own dedicated server. The issue isn’t replicated on a dedicated server for what it’s worth. I was looking forward to playing on official, too.
Yes, the problem persists, but there is a WORKAROUND, which involves enabling the console so you can enter “SUICIDE.” However not everyone are able to work with console stuffs, the devs could take a little time to fix it—even on private servers, this happens when there’s a queue.
