It used to be exciting to charge into the heart of the Summoning Place on horseback and face a horde of angry fighters. Now you face 3-4 while the rest have dutifully returned to their spawn point. The 2 guards at the entrance to the Frost Temple used to always attack together - if one heard the other fighting he would join. Now it is trivial to pick them off one at a time.
I understand there needs to be some amount of game-like decisions (as opposed to world-like) to make the game fun, but part of the appeal of Conan is that it is a world to explore and adventure in. The aggro radius and leashing was better before Age of War. There are just too many areas now where it’s dumb, you can just charge past hordes of enemies and they will briefly chase you then return to their spawn point.
I haven’t checked. I stopped using pets a while ago, except as beasts of burden. Someone on my server was complaining in global chat that pets got nerfed even more, but I don’t know if they were right about that.
The reduced aggro range seems unncessary to me, too. I understand the idea, and it addressed a valid concern. But after some (okay, tbh: too many) hours of gameplay with Age of War, we could have managed very well without that change.
Some encounters actually get more difficult or weird, e. g. the spider phase in the Kurak Dungeon.
It wouldn’t be as bad if it worked as intended, and only a few people at a time aggroed the player.
But as it is, the aggro doesn’t stay even if I’m shooting at the NPC. As long as I bring enough arrows, Grey Ones are safe to fight because they run at me half the way, then turn back and return to their post, letting me shoot them in the back.
