Boss / Elite animals have a random berserk setting?

,

Here is the situation. Official server 1525, PVE. Base located in H6, close to the boss croc that sits by a pool, and on the river that goes up to the Black Galleon. My character has run by that croc many times, with and without a pet following me (shaleback for carrying stuff) on runs to collect bark/iron ore/coal. No problem, in fact the croc never even reacts 95% of the time. And when it does, it normally moves forward a short distance, stops and turns around.

Suddenly, today (25Nov2020), I run (with shaleback following) by and the croc going to farm coal/bark. The croc not only reacts, he chases me and pet almost to the open field with all the dead trees and water hole. Then he goes away like normal. I collected my coal and a bunch of bark. Run back to my base, hugging the walls of the hill and don’t hear the croc at all. I get to my base, and start offloading the bark and coal, and suddenly all heck breaks loose. The boss croc has travelled to and is now attacking my base. Kills three guard thralls and two pets. 2+ weeks of work lost as I’ve been leveling those thralls/pets.

My question is what the heck happened? What made this so different and what set off this boss croc? The only thing I can figure is maybe another player ran through before, but I did not see anyone, and with this croc’s normal reset, someone would have had to go through just before, and again, I saw no other player. The other suspicion is this game has some random trigger that makes boss animals like this go bonkers. Has anyone seen behavior like this?

Some of them, just don’t see you.

Red Mother does this, you can walk/jog (aka not run) along edge and she wont even notice, much like Croc by lagoon, or even walk behind one in Far NE to see Sarco behind green wall)

Soon as you run or happen get in view distance, they turn on. This seems to be mostly Bosses.

Few of Rot Branches do this to if you stay behind them, allowing you to nab ore and tree near them.

Also few Loins and Tiger who lay down, who you can get within 1foot of them with out much worry. (nice spot in Mid-West side, were you can nab loin cubs right behind a Loin overlooking Savana.

A lot of times. I believe there must be something in the AI of the game, sometimes it’s rewarding and some other times punishing. If you are new on the game, i guarantee you that the worst is yet to come, still don’t let it bring you down. Keep playing and welcome to the comunity :+1:.

I noticed the elites tend to follow me much further than non-elites.

I’d bet someone got the croc to follow away from its origin but still close enough for players running by. Maybe the engagement is less trivial.

My base is located in H6, right next to the small river that runs up to the Black Galleon. If you are in the river by the galleon’s anchor, head east down the river. You will be going through a fairly narrow canyon. The first time it really opens up, my base is located to the right. You will know where you are, because of the cranky salamander to your left. Have to kill that salamander on a regular basis when I go collect shellfish, as it likes to stay next to the river.

The croc’s location is fairly well known.
