hey guys having a very bizzare, never before seen issue (atleast ive never seen this before) if anyone knows how to fix this let me know, thanks!
i accidentally deleted a wall in my base. wouldnt let me replace said wall. so i moved all the placeables. still couldnt.
moved all the chests. still couldnt.
noticed its because “building here will block my spawn point” so i removed the bed and set my spawn at a different bed. still cant.
i tried removing the floors/walls around where i couldnt build as sometimes that fixes a “failed to place building” issue. this started out as one wall piece that i couldnt replace. now the additional floors and walls i removed cant be replaced, so i have a giant hole in the middle of my tower and apparently, i cannot fill it in because:
“building here will block my spawn point”
despite there being no bed there and my spawn being set at a completely different bed no where near where im trying to build.
this is getting exhausting. every piece has ample stability and ive restarted my server 5 times. there is absolutely no reason why i cannot replace these floors and walls.
UPDATE:
the game is now giving me the option to place the building pieces. but every time i left click, it now says “failed to place building”. as i said, stability is fine, there were floors and walls here for 10 months. now they cant be replaced. first it was an issue where the game thought my spawn point was still in that location, but now its just flat out telling me NO for no discernable reason.
It’s a stupid bug I didn’t use to have, but now it happens more frequently to me too, @Einarr . I haven’t found a solution, but it tends to disappear by itself after a few restarts and new renderings of the area. Try using blocks from other building sets too. Try a frame. Then replace with the one you want. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Placing vertical elevators is also more problematic too and, like this bug, it tends to disappear by itself after a while.
It seems these bugs have been around for a long time, but for some unknown reason I’m only getting them recently.
I had this error periodically when I first started playing, almost 4 years ago. But I played a single player game, and logging out and re-entering always helped me.
And then I stopped dealing with it altogether.
im playing on a private server not single player. i just logged in and tried to replace the floors again, 24 hours later. i am told: “failed to place building”. this has been going on for 48 hours now. ive restarted this server countless times now.
yeah im not crashing or anything, the game is just not letting me replace the floor. the stability on every single piece is ample. i built this base last june, this room has been here for that long.
atleast when this bug first started happening to me 48 hours ago on friday, its because it thought that my spawn point was still there. stupid, but there was logic behind it.
now with it showing that i can infact place a floor there, but then saying “failed to place building”, it shows this is going beyond the game thinking that im trying to build over a spawn point.
I tried using other build sets but to no avail. When i get home, im going to try replacing the existing floors and walls with a different set, and then see if i can attach them
I dont know if it still holds true, but we have found over the years if we build and come into that problem, there is someone elses item stuck in the undermesh.
We found this out on a modded server by have the sysop clear all items from the area. There was something we did not put down blocking the building process.
Have to move is a constant problem, so now we pick remote places where no one thinks of building.
