So I’ve been playing Conan exiles for several years now and I have noticed a tremendous change and growth for the game, but… What about the character creation aspect? As it sits now, the characters we have are lifeless, expressionless drones that just move to our demands. The options given are limited and this eventually creates a “close effect” as people can only do so much to be unique. And even more so, most wear helmets that end up hiding face and hair. So by then we all look identical. Can we like get a few more options for body diversity? And some cool additions like personalities, skin applications to look demonic, reptilian, or whatever else would be bonus. Also hairs, we could definitely use a lot more hairs.
there’s an easy way to remedy the helmet dilemma, what i usually do is just glamour the helmet at a sorcery bench with a circlet or just a pair of earings, which is usually hidden under the hair anyways, and ta-da! no helmet, i do this for my character and pretty much all my female thralls.
I get that, but I mean for players. Even then if you do that, you will eventually look exactly like another player and/or thralls if that unlucky. The options for character creation is highly limited and could use a much needed overhaul like the rest of the game has been getting.
I do remember Dennis mentioning something about hair in either the last developer stream or the one before. I think they’re just more focused on giving us more content to do in the game, revamping all the mechanics and stuff, so they are probably working on character cosmetic stuff, it would be neat if we could hire a barber at the tavern in the future, BUT i wouldnt be surprised if a “Optional Hair Pack” showed up in the Bazaar and not just added in an uptade.
Id be ok with that. Sure people scorn micro transactions, but I see it more as a fund raiser for a game you love. I would definitely buy hairs if they released them. And if they made an option for character personalities, change how you walk/run/crouch etc, I would buy those too. Anything to add life to the character themselves.
I’d like fat and slim bodies to be introduced. Also, being able to shape the hands, not just their sizes. Currently, even if you resize a female character’s hands, they still look like lumberjack hands. Be they fat or slim hands, a woman’s hands are still more delicate than what we currently have in the game.
Unfortunately, many of those size issues are limited by the armor and weapons. Hands need a minimum size to be able to hold handles and armor can change only so much with the boob slider. It already has some limitations as I’ve noticed. I imagine fat and skinny will have even more issues.
I can see that working well, but would also still limit creativity of the player. But definitely would be an improvement.
This is what I do not understand. If the meshes of the body parts sink into the weapons and clothes, then the issue comes from how the meshes were conceived, not from the size of the body parts. In my other application, we ask the 3D modelists to fix their meshes clipping with the add-ons (weapons) or clothes. When the mesh is well finished, we can add individual resizers to the body parts, and they look just fine no matter who made the add-ons or clothes (eg: small hand resizer from creator A + long gloves from creator B + milkshake in hand from creator C + a dance action from creator D).
I do not create in Conan so I believe you when you say there are limitations in what can be done (or at least, by the modders), but I have such a hard time to understand how a professional team would not be able to fix the clipping issues in their own game
Edit: there is no clipping on the chest no matter its size in the game
Mea culpa the team, you are skilled.
The base project probably aimed to appeal to people drawn by 6 packs
Which part would limit the creativity please?
Giving body types. Sure it adds diversity, but slightly. What I had in mind was more body sliders. Something that allows finer detailing of the character.
Well, I read about your skin application example, it was a nice idea.
However, I wish it could be used on other shapes of bodies. It looks like the Exiles were all fit before being sent on the cross. They can have wrinkles or not, they all give that choco bar feeling, you know?
Agreed. I figured the character would be shriveled up some at least. It never said how long you were there till Conan finds you.
There has been clipping issues on occasion… in fact, sit down on the latrine or lion throne and you’ll see it with some armors if you zoom in. Also, i was more referring to warping of the armors. For example, the center tooth on the darfari chest piece on a female is still bad if her chest is too large.
The reason they are sized the way they are is because weapon size (and their range) is dictated by hand size. When we resize the hands (on modded servers) those wanting smaller hands do put themselves at an actual disadvantage.
It’s the same concept as if you make your character super short, the shortest you can go. You actually reduce your range. Vice versa, go super tall, you get more range. So either way you go about it, it will alter your gameplay slightly. But that’s ok, not everyone should be of equal abilities. That’s what diversity is about.
Oh my. My character has the smallest chest ever, and my thralls are bigger but maybe not the biggest of the game probably. They must have been lacking that extra size to compare. From your finding, I can only deplore that they have not fixed the clipping issues then. I would think it is basic work. By the way… I did not know we could sit on the latrine lol. I have it and never realized, so thank you
Wow. So the action is not working independently to the size of the mesh. That’s so bad, I wonder how they came up with something like that.
I have a question for you. When you create a small sized new character in the game, will its range of attack also be shorter when they hold a weapon? From what I can remember, small characters used to have smaller horses to ride compared to big characters. I can only guess the same would happen for the weapons they hold. Unless… the mesh of the weapon overtakes the mesh of the body, hence having huge hands on small sized characters to keep equality of range between players.
Edit: I hadn’t read the next post to this thread yet. ElegantPink answered to my question lol.
Thank you.
It’s likely a case-by-case issue. Idk… the one I’m thinking of in particular is the innkeeper corset.
For the latrine, the character is not aligned with the hole. We are defecating on the toilet seat.
