Conan Exiles Dedicated Server Launcher (Official Version: 1.7.11 / Beta: 1.7.12)

Just to eliminate a possible issue, could you try again with a folder path that does not contain a space (“Portable Programs”).

Also, if you are using an anti-virus, could you make sure the entire folder is in the exclusion list? (Anti-virus are notorious for doing things like deleting random DLLs or Executables they don’t like for absolutely arbitrary reasons).

Thanks Toolguy. The folder turned out to not be the issue. I added the entire folder to exclusions, and still failed the download, then upon checking further into my Anti-Virus, part of the SteamCMD was blocked. Having unblocked that, I now have a running server.
Thank you again.

I don’t provide support on the actual game, I’m not part of the Conan Exiles dev team (not touched the code since it launched in early access), so I’d say you are on the right forum, but in the wrong thread.

Probably a better location here:

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to host a dedicated server for myself and one friend to play on.

I’ve created the server, and both myself and my friend are able to find it in the server list and join without issues. However, for some reason I keep getting disconnected within a minute or so of joining.

I’m playing on the same PC that the server is being hosted on. My friend, who is playing from his own PC at his home on a separate network, has zero issues.

We’re both playing through the Xbox Game Pass launcher. I’ve changed the ports from the default as advised in the FAQ. The issue persists both with and without mods. I’ve done this same setup in the past with another game (ARK Survival Evolved) and things were working fine there so I’m assuming the ports are forwarded correctly.

Is there something I’m missing, or does anyone have any suggestions for me to try? Would appreciate and assistance at all, the tethering in Co-Op is driving my friend crazy haha.

Thanks

You arent running Barachan Isles by any chance? For some reason it kills the purge meter visual; Snowhunter is aware of this. If you’re using pippi you can check the purge meter value and see if its just the visual or if the purge meter is really resetting. There is also a purge update interval that can affect the meter if you adjusted it making it fill faster or empty faster based on activity/inactivity.

Did you check the multihome box since youre running it from the host machine?

Correct, Multihome is selected. The box with my IP is populated, and the indicator to the right is green if that matters.

Did you use the default ports? I think the game client uses the same ports and this can interfere. Perhaps @Toolguy can set me straight if I’m wrong. Because of that, I would change the ports the launcher uses to something else (like 1000, 1001, etc). Perhaps when your friend joins and pings the ports, its kicking your connection. Just guessing.

Ports have been changed from the defaults yes. And I don’t think it’s my friend kicking me off because I still DC even when I’m the only one on the server.

Probably have to wait for toolguy. Do you have battleeye or vac enabled? If its just the two of you (with a password on the server) could just turn those off to see if it makes a difference (unless of course theyre already off). I dont use either on my servers but I run mine from a dedicated machine.

Yeah both battle eye and VAC are disabled, we reckoned there was no point to them for us so left it off.

Just to double-check that it’s not firewall related I even tried disabling it temporarily to see if this made any difference. Sadly no luck.

I appreciate the suggestions, hopefully Toolguy can shed some more light. This issue is so weird lol, really at my wit’s end.

I knew I had forgotten something, I saw the message yesterday but I had some firefighting to do… :fire_engine:

So, getting disconnected after a minute or so you wrote:

  • Does that happen systematically, even when your friend is not trying to join?
  • Have you tried to disable both your Firewall and Antivirus software to see if that changes anything?
  • Have you checked the game and server logs to see what happens around the time you get disconnected?

Regarding the different set of ports, if you managed to connect, it probably means the ports were not conflicting, but maybe there are some delayed stuff which makes the game unhappy.

Normally when this type of problem happens, there are some messages that can give some hints.

yeah im running barachian isles actually. I might have to install pippi to check that then i gues, that being said we should have had a purge by now tho O.o

Hey Toolguy. Thanks for the followup, and no worries.

Does that happen systematically, even when your friend is not trying to join?

I’m able to replicate it pretty reliably even when my friend isn’t on the server

Have you tried to disable both your Firewall and Antivirus software to see if that changes anything?

I tried my firewall before but hadn’t actually checked with antivirus turned off. I just gave it a shot now and unfortunately it’s the same issue (I’m using Windows Defender)

Have you checked the game and server logs to see what happens around the time you get disconnected?

Took a look at server logs now. I’m not entirely sure how to make sense of the information I’m seeing but I believe this is from around the time of the DC (with IP censored):

Are game logs different to server logs? If so then I’m not sure where to find them. I tried googling and came across this blog post that mentions a “Logs” folder being under “Saved”. I don’t have anything like that. Not sure if I’m looking in the wrong place, or if it’s perhaps different for the gamepass client or something.

I appreciate the assistance, cheers.

Not used the gamepass version, but would make sense that the Logs are in the Saved folder, but possibly the gamepass version is storing the Saved folder somewhere else, like maybe in APPDATA?

When you connect locally to your server, are you using the join page, direct connect, external or internal IP?

When running a client on the same internal network, it happens that sometimes things don’t behave as they should, in which case using the local network IP of the server tends to help.

When you connect locally to your server, are you using the join page, direct connect, external or internal IP?

The server shows up for me as the first entry in the server browser, so I’ve just been joining by selecting it there then clicking on the join button.

HOWEVER I just tried using direct connect instead, with my internal IP, and I haven’t received any DCs as of yet. I exited, then joined from the server browser again to make sure it wasn’t just coincidence and I DC’d within a minute once again. Went back in with direct connect once more and everything was fine, so seems that’s the key.

I’ll be checking later to see if everything is still fine once my friend is in the server with me, but I suspect that the matter should be resolved now.

Thank you for the assistance, much appreciated

Edit: Just an update for anyone interested. I was eventually able to test with more than one person on the server and everything was indeed working fine.

Thank you so much for this tool, it’s worked perfectly for me!

Quick question: how is the load order of mods determined?

Just by the order in which you have them in the edit field in the tool.
You can double check by looking at the generated modlist.txt file

Thanks you! And are mod updates downloaded automatically?
