When searching for a corpse, it is at least 50% of the time that the corpse is either missing or not where the death marker is placed. Interestingly, if you die while searching for your corpse (which is almost a guarantee, since MOBS will corpse-camp you), that SECOND corpse is ALWAYS right on the marker.
I’ve also noticed that the death marker will move on it’s own. Never to where it actually needs to be, but still.
