I will admit. The several year wait made it a bit of a bummer with how short it was, but then I took a step back and remembered that the game is free, and this is a free update. The map was pretty much perfectly sized for the amount of content. Much better than Kaidan was at launch in TSW.
The missions themsleves were mostly good. The one with the super soldiers… was comical at best and felt like it didn’t belong there. The sabotage mechanic with the new drones was good, and the lore in that mission was great.
The lack of a single investigation mission kinda blew tbh. I was looking forward to having to sit down and spend a few hours figuring it out but like they said, there will be more missions being added in the near future.
The returning characters were great. One of my housemates did it as a Dragon and it wasnt a let down. As an Illuminati member, KG was her usual self but dialed up to 11… Oh bby. No idea what happens with the Templar as my housemates have standards
All in all it’s worth playing man. Just ignore the articles and play it yourself.
Overall, the zone works pretty well for what it is - an enclosed compound housing everyone that works there. As such, one thing I really hated was dozens and dozens of Blooded supersoldiers that don’t actually have any barracks to dwell in. Seriously. There’s only four buildings in that section of the compound and not one of them is quarters for this horde!
Content-wise, it’s a little disappointing that infiltrating the Morninglight doesn’t have any investigation missions and just one sabotage mission (so far). Though I guess that’s a bit ‘be careful what you wish for’, given Funcom still thinks jump’n’run makes for good stealth in a MMO. Seriously, it bloody doesn’t. Your bloody stupid algorithms 9 times out of 10 assume I didn’t actually mean to jump when I don’t have enough of a running start. Consequently, that second tripwire bloody ruined what would otherwise have been a great mission.
I enjoyed my playthrough of the story missions the first time around. The story started off slow and really escalated. It definitely FEELS like the interlude Tilty suggested it was going to be. Both an epilogue to Kaidan, and a prologue to which comes next which will OBVIOUSLY be TAMPA.
There were a few things I though seemed a bit out of place, mostly the design of the Blooded just seemed like they didn’t fit visually in SWL.
Was it enough? No, of course not. Funcom could have had five times or one hundred times the ‘content’ and ‘story’ in this expansion and it still wouldn’t have been enough. Because we WANT more, I don’t think think we could ever get ‘enough’. It’s a GOOD start though, and if we get stuff like this that moves the story forward, fairly regularly, I think that’s a good thing.
I would agree with criticism about Blooded. Their design looked more like stolen from FC upcoming mutant game than TSW/SWL esthetics. I would really don’t mind if you would use supersoldiers from Transylvania. And secondly as I already mentioned. There was too many of them. It would be much better if there would be just a few plus that several bosses.
I just got done with the main story (though I got a SMS from someone that wants me to meet them in the Anointed district, probably opens a few more quests outside the story to do). I had a blast, figuratively and literally. I created my own mix-n-match versions of the Foundling and Anointed outfits (glad those came as a uniform and as pieces!), and wear them when I’m working in the area, just because.
Really like the whole day/night thing, that is great.
Few of the new monsters made me realize we need a laundromat somewhere.
Keep in mind that when “Season 2” was coined as a description, “Season 1” consisted of Solomon Island, Egypt, Transylvania, with the last part of Kaidan closing out “Season 1”. We got a bit of downtime with The Nameless issue and some extra Kaidan stuff–all of which has been folded into what used to be called “Season 1” in TSW.
“Season 2”, if we continue to use that term, should be long. It’s not going to be something that can be wrapped up in one or two zones any more than “Season 1” was just Solomon Island. There is a HELL of a lot more to cover in the coming story than just the Morninglight.
I won’t lie i wasn’t expecting much , but i thoroughly enjoyed it , i like the direction the story is taking, loved the new creatures ,one in particular i hope to see popping it’s big head up in the next zone, so it’s a thumbs up from me.
At least make sure your sources played it even if you didn’t, geez.
I played it and had a blast. Was it less then normal? Yes. But it also felt a lot denser. Like, they crammed as much in there as possible. And I liked it. Even at the end when some part of my brain went ‘now that’s just silly’. This game always had an edge of silly and I like that.
So, for the nice price of free. (Or twenty bucks if you count I bought the CE), I had a lot of fun. So yeah, good enough in my book.
(Note: author’s patience rivals that of the Templar Faction Handler. Now to look just as handsome.)
I find the content is lacking in as good lighting quality at times, than older content. Makes some of the content sometimes look too ‘alpha’. But then other areas/maps look better in quality (sure not ambition, but quality is apart from that) than most of the base game.
Conversation animations are definitely poorer most of the time. Bearable but I can tell the lower quality. Overactive bodies, mis-synced mouths. Still better than most MMOs in that regard though.
Yeah I noticed it a bit too but that was the only one I could at least come up with a reasonable excuse for.
I’m just happy KG was her usual snarky self
