Decrease in lighting or texture quality in Exiled Lands?

Has anyone else noticed a decrease in either/both lighting and texture quality in the Exiled Lands since the 2.3 update?

Lighting especially seems very bright and washed out now compared to before. It also feels like they’ve removed the bump maps from a lot of the landscape textures, making them appear much smoother. I’ve got all my settings on High, as usual, except texture quality which is on Ultra, but the game just looks a lot worse than it did yesterday.

I’m wondering if this was one of their optimization changes. If so, I don’t like it.

I played after the patch and everything looked the same on CE, maybe even a little crisper. I use ultra across the board.

Interesting. Was that Exiled Lands or Siptah?

For me, Exiled Lands is way, way brighter than it was yesterday. I can run around at night now and don’t need a torch anymore to see everything. Before today, night time at the Mounds of the Dead used to be pitch black, but not anymore.

That was exiled lands.

I just logged into my Exiled Lands map. Jungle area was really white washed near the mouth of the river between dagon dungeon and pirate bay.

They did say in patch notes they were nerfing some textures on pc… -.-

Yea but the Jungle area is way too bright now. lol

Yes, I agree. I’ve been all over the map today and all areas are much brighter than they used to be, with areas like the oasis, savanna, jungle, and desert all way too over-exposed and washed out. It looks pretty awful on my PC compared to how it looked yesterday.

The textures, especially the landscape textures, also look like they’ve been downgraded, but I can’t be sure if thats just to do with the lighting changes or if they have actually been nerfed. Its hard to tell without before and after shots.

Glad its not just me thats noticed it then.

Yep, definitely brighter

this is during sandstorm and it is brighter than before

When you approach the desert area from the north (direct passages around the den) it is almost complelety white. There is something with the lightnings that’s for sure.
And for the “texture nerfs”? Maybe that’s why I have 5-10 fps more on average :open_mouth:

Yeah, I’ve definitely noticed an improvement in fps, but its come at a cost I’m not sure I’m happy with. They seem to have removed the bump/normal maps on the landscape textures, or something similar, making them appear smooth and polished, especially in the rain. It looks a bit bizarre.

I knew something was gonna be weird when they said they lowered poly count and made some textures smaller on the PC side of the patch… 8x Id love a good explanation for it.

Yes everything looks way too bright, and lots of details seems to have gone down the drain, especially in sunlight during day in desert areas, it definitely doesn’t look good.
I know the fake sandstorms that we get shortly after logging in isn’t the best example, but it never was this bad, I couldn’t even see ground or cliff edges anywhere

got exactly the same issue after the update. Days are too brigth and the landscape is foggy. Beurk… Too much brightness. I dont like it too

A 30 day loss of 4.17% of players even after a “MAJOR” update…I think some people got the message lol

I was sick, I had things to do! (mostly catch slaves, I was afraid they run or just move away  )

And interestingly, ALL of the ~20 mods I’m using works :open_mouth:

it looks like the light sources of torches etc have been changed.

until now it was nice, every light source had its own intensity. now most of them are ultra bright. I hope it’s a bug.

if the change is wanted, please change it back. otherwise we will lose a lot of variety. that is what constituted conan-building system variety and detail

I have a 1070 and have played the game on ultra settings across the board. So, I am not sure why Funcom felt the need to cheapen the PC graphics (it makes no sense). The game looks really bad now. Please Funcom, reverse these changes.

Wow the game even on ultra looks like crap after the new update, washed out , colors all wrong, all the textures seem down graded. Sand storms are blinding now , its like you can not see 2 feet in front of your face. This is not the way to lower poly count and fix the load from textures, god ask any modder how to do it from Fallout or Skyrim and they will get you a crash course on how to work on textures and not make them look like crap.

I suspect that the changes were probably mostly made with Siptah in mind and they just never bothered to check too closely what effect it would have on the Exiled Lands.

So I did a little experiment, and turned my gamma settings down to 1.0 which almost brought back the old textures of CE. I used to run it at 2.65. Then I logged into Siptah and it was almost like darkness in the middle of the day, I had to turn the gamma back up to 2.65 just to see.
