Is there any way to get my hand on the devkit without having to load up some crappy third party program? I know all about Epic but I don’t feel it’s justifiable to give them my email for the devkit when I have no business with them and nor do I want any.

No. Devkit can only be downloaded via Epic. It’s the same for any other UE4 game that uses a dev kit, as far as I know.
