My players get kicked off my server en masse and sometimes one at a time on all of my servers randomly. This is not a server or host issue, it is related to Funcom’s authentication service. This has been ongoing since the release of CE 3.0.
Today allegedly, the Funcom authentication services failed completely for hours with out response or resolution from Funcom?
Please fix this issue by making your authentication system more robust or drop it altogether and let Steam handle it.
The issue is the game is available across multiple different platforms so they can’t rely on just Steam for authentication.
You are correct in that they need a failover or backup, though. I can’t imagine a business model at any scale that does not have backup services hosted at a geographically separate location just to be safe.
Hell even the tiny computer shop down the street hosts their data both on-site and off-site so that outages such as this don’t occur with the few websites and services they provide.
Can confirm, all night had to try and try again to get online. Still cant get to my siptah server, keeps failing authentication even after verifying files etc. This needs to be fixed and while it’s ongoing decay needs to be turned off.
I can agree with that as well. I should have the option to disable authentication on my servers as I could very well be operating them in a closed network. That or I may just not want my servers having to reach out to FunCom servers for approval to let someone connect.
I don’t think anyone with a mind of their own would blame you.
The only reason I’ve come back is because of the Age of Sorcery updates. If not for Conan Exiles, I feel FunCom would be out of business. In their defense, it’s still a premiere survival/crafting title that has very few competitors, even with all its flaws.
You have got it completely and utterly 100% ass-backwards. If this gaming as a service BS doesn’t end, the death of this game - and gaming in general - is inevitable. The more completely extraneous, superfluous third-party services are hooked into a game, the less resilient and more fragile it becomes, and the more tempting a target its “security” poses to actual bad actors.
How do I have it backwards? You said FC should stop paying for Playfab. The result of that is you will never be able to authenticate and play the game. Ever again. It means Conan Exiles is over, gone, history.
If that’s what you want, you can do this for yourself and uninstall. It will result in exactly what you are asking for here.
Do you lack reading comp? Because that’s the point of this thread - that we should not be required to authenticate to log into a server, especially a private server.
In essence, customers are being burdened with the task of weeding out pirates. We’re not getting a cut of the royalties from this game, so why the hell should we be burdened with performing that task? If Funcom wants that on their official servers thats their prerogative but they have no business enforcing it on ours.
Steam, Epic Store, Microsoft Store (and maybe others as well) all sell Conan Exiles so to have people on PC crossplay together on different store platforms, playfab is required, otherwise, only Steam players can play with Steam players and so on, I think he is referring to.
Originally the game was only sold on Steam but recently (a year?) they added it to other gaming sale platforms which required a new Authentication system. The game originally only recognized Steam Account IDs.
If I can’t get you people to grok that having an outage to crossplay is preferable to having a complete, global outage of the game, I shudder to think what else we allow you to do without supervision.
And you haven’t understood that its not an outage to crossplay, but one to authentication. You don’t get it because you simply don’t want to. And you’re just personally attacking anyone who doesn’t say exactly what you want to hear.
