Gardening foundations and tiles

Agree! To me ideally, having foundation and ceiling pieces modelled after the various terrain, especially within each of the biomes would be exquisite. For example, a foundation which is a block of sand (desert inspired), one which lush green grass (highlands inspired), one of yellowed grass (savanah inspired), another foundation which is dirt and so forth. These would help us to construct lavish and radiant indoor botannical gardens.

Combine this with the automatic cycling through variants like the lavender bushes do, and the option to have landscape ramps and wedges and we could really create some nice looking gardens and areas. Would be a nice substitute for actual terrain manipulation.

Initial snark about possible implementation issues aside, I’ve given this some thought, and I’m not sure foundation blocks is the best approach. Imagine for a moment the grid pattern formed on thatched rooves and then extrapolate that to a garden scenario. Anything less than full blocks that can mesh fairly seamlessly next to each other is unlikely to look ideal.

An alternative approach is to use placeables (though I’m obviously not sure how much of a performance issue this could cause). To give an idea of what I mean, the following screenshots are of a bare patch of scrubby ground behind my base (back wall of Devil’s Squat) - everything you see is a placeable object - the grass, the trees, the rocks, all of it. (Obviously, this was done with a mod - the point is that I think the approach may be more favourable than foundation blocks) -

Similarly, this is just a patch of empty desert -

If Funcom could implement similar placeables into the base game (and I’m pretty sure this mod uses entirely or almost entirely assets that already exist in the base game), the potential for builds would be amazing.

I’m inclined to agree with @DanQuixote that placeables would be the better option.

Here’s a garden north of Sepermaru on a desert plateau. It’s made with a variety of placeables.
