I can't put armor on a character, I can't put it in a box, it's stuck in my inventory and when I try to put it on, it quickly returns to its place in the inventory

You cannot use any of the inventory sorts. If they do, they will totally bug/glitch your UI experience. (Hi, @AndyB and @den ! ) This is fallout from the inventory UI pass that literally no one asked for.

Use NO SORTING. All the time.

If, for some Crom-forsaken reason, you do “need” to sort by Name, Type, or Weight, do so. And then IMMEDIATELY switch back to NO SORTING. Switching to NO SORTING will not return your inventory to the previous positioning (the way CUSTOM used to). But it will allow you to safely manage your inventory. But after you switch back to NO SORTING, you must also drag one thing in your inventory into another place. Like swapping your waterskin for your gas mask.

This will FORCE your CE game client to reconcile with the CE game server, and apply the proper indexing to the things in your inventory.

The legit reason why you cannot equip your armor is because when you shift-click on that helmet, it’s actually trying to put your roasted haunch on your head. Which is not a valid placement. That is why it pings back into your inventory.

The game client is operating in a de-sync’d state. And while your game client believes you that you should put the helmet on your head … on the back end, on the game server, the game server is trying to take inventory-position-item-0004 and place that on your face. Execpt that the game server will show that inventory-position-item-0004 is a stack of roasted haunch. Which does not equip to the player face (under normal circumstances).

Also - check your drop bags. Always. Just as you think you might be dropping that stack of rotten meat (Inventory-position-item-0077), you might actually be dropping that Bael-Pteor’s Razor that you just picked up in the Warmaker dungeon.

Always check your drop bags. Always. And ALWAYS use NO SORTING. Or else.
