Map: Exiled Lands
Server Name: 1042

Bug Description:
The server just kicked me out and now I can’t connect to it! The server says the ping is too high so I can’t connect back! I tested my network with other games and internet speed measurement services and in reality the ping is 10-20ms. I often play on the server and always experience massive lag when the number of active players reaches around 20. I think the server has now reached a state that requires urgent maintenance! With so many active players, all the fighting in the game is unenjoyable. Every enemy creatures are brutally laggy. Most of the time my followers and enemy creatures watch each other for 1-2 minutes and then suddenly start attacking. When I join the server my own inventory takes 5 minutes to load. Of course, the game is unplayable until then because you can’t get your hands on anything. I won’t even mention the base loading.
It’s one of the more active servers.
I just checked it out and it doesn’t seem worse than others.
Servers typically start lagging badly at peak hours when there are 20+ people online and someone starts spamming Tier 10 purges with four dozen thralls on defense.
It would be easy to get mad at the players and blame them for this, but some people can only play during peak times.
It’s Funcom’s fault for continuing to tack on features like Al’Merayah, purges, thousands of harvesting golems, taverns, and now “Living Settlements” that all require hardware intensive pathing calculations on server hardware that was already marginal to begin with.
It would be very sad if I, as a player, had to decide what the developers should do with the servers.
I think the first step is to understand what is important and how to prioritize what to do. As a developer, if I was notified that the official servers I provide were not working properly, I would immediately make it my number one priority. It doesn’t matter what content update is added to the game as long as the core functionality is not working. The development team should set up a separate team responsible for monitoring and maintaining the servers. Tools are needed to make sure that the problem is really with the official servers. Tools that allow players to provide more information to the developers and thus speed up the debugging process.
As a developer, if I was notified that the official servers I provide were not working properly, I would immediately make it my number one priority.
You’re absolutely right, in an ideal world this is how it should be.
After the last five years of Conan Exiles I’ve learned to manage my expectations.
There may be something affecting the performance of #1042, however I think the decline in server performance is primarily due to a poorly optimized game that has had a lot of very server resource intensive content haphazardly tacked on with the only consideration being marketing bullet points and not actual gameplay quality.
