PC Update 34 (04.10.2018) - The Midnight Grove and Jhebbal Sag religion

I was quite vocal about the potential game-breaking nature of the feeding mechanic. But I’ll say that what we have right now is just fine. It’s not a grind (my first concern), nor is it impossible to stock up for a week’s worth of supplies (my second concern). Unless you have literally hundreds of thralls I suppose, but if so it’s fine that it’s difficult to feed them. Coupled with thralls being stronger (more in line with pets) so you’ll need less to have the same “defensive value”, it’s good now.

The initial feeling that this patch was virtually bug-free* has (unfortunately) proven false, but I’ll still say it feels much more polished than anything we’ve seen for this game since, er, ever.

Hopefully fixes to these bugs will be coming soon™, with or before the second half of the pets update (the one with the actual pets in it, heh).

*which is not the same as the entire game being bug-free because no-one thought that was going to happen.

I do not agree about the slaves. It is not difficult now, it takes a lot of time. Just useless. The player is exposed as a slave to service the slaves. They are slaves, not assistants or hired workers. They are designed to save time and increase productivity. Now we see the opposite. Once a week you need to run and throw food into the boilers, the radius of which is very small for players who play long and steadily.

Increasing the boiler radius would solve this problem. Or, set the action throughout the building.

I do not want to play the role of a slave for slaves. The mechanics of the game makes it necessary to have many slaves throughout the area.
If I were sure that someone else’s purge would not break my buildings and they would be under threat only on certain days, it would be easier.
I think most players would agree with my opinion.

Nope, don’t agree. I agree with the Thrall changes and even like it. Anything to help create that City Life system envisioned so long ago. We will never have the full fleshed version of City Life, but things like this add to it for me.

If you really hate the system so much, there is the option to turn it off via server settings if you wanted to go that route. I understand vanilla servers don’t have that ability, but they shouldn’t be turned off on vanilla to begin with.

You did not understand. I am not against the feeding system. I do not mind at all this system.
I am not happy that the feeding pot feeds in a small radius, about 25 blocks in total. About 10 of these boilers should be used on my base. Plus on small outposts for mining by 1-2. In total, there are about 20 points to which you need to run. It is very time consuming and you spend a few hours just to feed the slaves. This is silly.

If an increase in the radius were added with a slave placed in the boiler up to 50-75 blocks, this would completely solve the problem. And better, the effect of the boiler on the entire building. Then it’s generally great.

Ah, I see. I apologize for the confusion. Though, this does bring two other ideas to mind

  1. Modding of course (cause that’s always where my brain always goes)

  2. Upgradeable pots so that you “earn” a wider radius.

That’s a great idea.

Make the pots like a crafting station (doesn’t need to craft) that accepts thrall cooks to increase the radius. Even better if higher tier cooks increase the radius each time, with named cooks providing the greatest range. That would make cooks feel really valuable to capture.

And an extra bonus to boot, just help bring just a little bit more life to your city. It’s believable to have a thrall “handing out the food” as it were.

This is what I said at the very beginning. I play only on official servers. For all time, only 3 servers. Which I never stopped playing.

So modding is not an option. Maybe I will open my server on the similarity of the official, but only after the release of the full patch and all the hotfixes. I like to play on official servers. I hope the developers will listen to the idea with an increase in radius. When using a cook.

Sorry, modding wasn’t meant to be thrown in your face, I was just brain storming mod projects. But I like your cook idea better then anything I can come up with.

Do you want to suggest it in the Suggestions subforum (since it’s your idea and you could also explain about the issues you’re having) to give it more visibility? Otherwise I will, it’s a cool idea.

Well, now I will write. I thought it would be enough here, as it concerns the patch that came out.

Yeah, I’m just not sure that it will get noticed by Jens or Tascha buried in this long thread. Cool suggestion deserves it’s own own thread in the suggestion subforum.

Did not know. I always tried to write in one branch, so as not to repeat. Apparently, many of my suggestions were missed. Thank you.
Now I don’t have time to write big ideas. Secured the message and write in the evening.

Agreed. Suggestions should always have their own thread, otherwise it’s difficult to see them, and discussing them becomes a mess in catch-all threads like this one.

Is that a 25 by 25 foundation square (625 blocks) or 5 x 5 foundation square (25 blocks)?

Increasing the radius and increase food efficiency by placing a cook is a great idea.

Neither. If it’s a radius, it’s 25 foundations in any directions, ie a circle (or rather, in this case, a sphere) around the pot.

Like so:
                 ▲
                 |
               25 sq
                 |
    ◄- 25 sq - (POT) - 25 sq -►
                 |
               25 sq
                 |
                 ▼

I am not sure if that’ll work… let’s see. So it’s not just 25 squares west, or east, or north of the pot - it’s 25 squares in ANY direction, including up and down (but also all diagonals and everything in between).

Basically it is a circle inside a 50 block by 50 block square. Got it.

Yeah you could say that. But obviously that means that the “corners” of a 50x50 block square would NOT be covered

Definitely dont work… I did everything you told me!

I also played for a while on an official PVP server where I am well established. And I am also eligible for the purge. Nothing after 2 hours “alone” on the server!

Thank you for taking the time and patience to answer me!

Feel free to give it a like/bump in the suggestion subforum if you like it
