I would generally love an option to put a ballista on my wall without having to build a giant foundation just for it to sit pn that and it allows for it to be used in more situations… I get why the trebuchet requires the siege because its a giant heavy siege engine that does a heap of damage.
Also remove having to turn the ballista by the outside things it shouldn’t be a smaller reskin of treb
Agreed. The ballistae is not worth the space it needs to be built. It fires slow as balls, does stuff all damage and has pathetic range to top it off. All of this makes it worthless as an anti-personnel weapon to boot.
It’s not anti personnel that’s why it’s for god defense and raiding star metal bolts take 7 minutes off gods plus the balls do a decent amount of damage towards building pieces
Sometimes the proper tool for destruction is a giant ball of stone flung through the air from a trebuchet. Sometimes the proper tool for destruction is a bolt powerful enough to split a man in two. A ballista can do both. While the stones it fires aren’t as large or powerful as the stone boulders flung from a trebuchet, it is much more accurate, allowing you to target the specific door or wall to destroy. Their bolts, on the other hand, provide reliable defense against intruders or an avatar summoned by enemies. Their weakness is their immobility, they cannot be easily moved once placed and finding the correct range and angle requires time and patience. With repeated use, it is almost certain that some or all of the pieces of the trebuchet will degrade and need to be replaced.
Seems like it worth its bothersome construction. If your idea of defense uses that.
I do observe that whoever wrote that forgot to change the last sentence when pasting it from treb. Unless a ballista is considered a type of trebuchet. But I am more inclined to consider that both trebuchets and ballistas are types of catapult, as catapulting is what both do.
In general (and historical) usage, ballistae and catapults are two different families of war machine.
Ballistae are ballistic weapons, like cannons, guns, crossbows & bow. They can fire both directly and indirectly but they are most effective when using direct fire.
Catapults are not ballistic weapons, their most effective mode of fire (and in most cases their only mode of fire) is indirect fire, like a modern mortar.
Trebuchets are one type of catapult, but neither trebuchets nor catapults are ballistae.
