Bug Description:
BUG DESCRIPTION
Describe the issue. Please be thorough.
The UE4-ConanSandbox Game has crashed, again.
Bug Reproduction:
BUG REPRO
Please describe the steps you took to cause this bug to happen.
Play your game
I can’t play for more than half an hour without crashing. Is this a widespread problem or is it on my end? Started after the hot “fix”. What a bleeding mess this entire era has been, it was at least 4-5 months away from being in any type of shape to release, what a shame… embarrassing.
If you go to your Conan Exiles installation folder (I think on Steam, you can right click the game, and go Manage → Browse Local Files), under ConanSandbox/Saved, there should be a log file there, ConanSandbox.log. I am curious if you might be able to take a look next time there is a crash?
You should be able to go right to the end of the log, see if anything stands out at the bottom of the file just a few lines before where it probably says “Fatal error!”, like if there is a “Script Stack” line that might have more info with it.
I have been having a crash that sounds similar myself since the update, but I hadn’t reported it since I was unsure if it was a problem on my end somehow. I am curious if it might be the same one, and maybe the info would be helpful if anyone at Funcom sees this to take a look.
Saved the game and made a clean start; maybe one of the two mods I used (Edit Appearance and Fashionist) left some remnants after I removed/unsubscribed from them at the time the crashes began after the hot fix; I am suspicious about Fashionist in particular, even tho I unsubscribed the day after the hotfix when the problem started, the “Feature Complete” statement from the author tells me it is grossly outdated by now. If I get the same error on the new game I shall dig deeper, yes, but first I need to discard the possibility that mods might have caused a shortcut with the hotfix, I’ll let you know.
I have been having this a few times since the update but I also used to get this before the update, I will look out for script stack lines now when this happens.
As a side note I have no mods and only play officials pvp.
Been playing since the post plus all day today on a clean new game, as I explained. I have not experienced a single crash; hardly a scientific sample, but this ain’t crashin’, he he, I am almost convinced it is a mod thing, they leave remnants inside the game even after unsubscribed (says he who knows nothing about coding besides fiddling with INI files), specially the more complex and “intrusive ones”.
Oh how I am going to miss my cast of characters created by my beloved Edit Appearance… sigh (Not to mention my entire game, which no longer is playable), but I’m gonna forego mods, they are awesome and add a million ways to fun, but devs are the ones that program the game, and change the code they will as they keep developing it, and more and more mod creators move on to newer games, hence abandoning the code which will train-wreck with the advancement of the game.
Thanks for the update, @Boulderkin! I suspect my problem might be mod-related too, which is why I was interested to see if it was a similar problem here that wasn’t.
Interestingly, I run a similar but not identical mod, Improved Quality of Life, which also allows editing of thralls. I’ve suspected it could be the culprit of my crash, based on the error in my log, but the one I’ve been getting has been random/irregular enough to where I’ve not spent the time to see if I can solve it.
Glad to hear your issue was resolved; that confirmation is enough of a data point for me to be able to look into my own mod problem more.
Just wanted to let you know; the game has ran flawlessly since I started anew. Since I am starting, I do not have any of the complex (At lease for me =P) building and decorations, but I think it is safe to slice the issue with the good ole’ Occam’s Razor and expect the engine to prr without MODification from 3rd parties. This actually hurt, creating my cast of characters and adventuring with a thrall that actually meant something to you, not just another bloke; was an integral part of my joy. What a shame; that hurt more than losing everything I had, Character’s faces are not realistic in general on this game, their cheeks are almost always near the right side end of the sliders, eyes way too big, and… well, ugly, in my opinion, and fake-looking; Dalinisia as a prime example… aw well, sigh.
First crash, exact same tag, at least it lasted a few days, but what’s strange is it was the exact same tag-id crash, UE4-ConanSandbox Game; I thought those were related to mods… well anyway, same crash persists, folk from FUNCOM; please look into it.
At least this time you have a reason for the crash, it shows it was in the rendering thread.cpp line 805 and that the exception was not handled by the code.
This is one description of the error:
Exception Access Violation is an error you may see on your Windows computer when you try to execute a specific program or function. This error indicates that the program attempted to access memory it did not have permission to read, write, or execute.
In your case it was due to writing at memory address 0x00000059.
At least we know it was not this, if you are running windows 11 maybe this solution that another person posted was to uninstall all of the windows updates to the point prior to the release of the AOH.
The servicing stack updates cannot be removed, before you do this pause windows updates for a while so that they do not reinstall themselves.
On a side note I am running windows 10 and I occasionally get this same error I have been glancing through the windows logs and it has come up with conansandbox ran out of memory, would be interesting to see if your windows logs say anything with regards to conansandbox, this may give additional info to help track down and hopefully resolve for you.
