1000 Hour Review + Feedback + Suggestions

Conan Exiles is a game unique to itself my the characteristics of how the game is played and despite other survival-open world MMO’s, its truly stands alone.
Newcomers will quickly learn how to survive, they will experience incredible landscapes, a huge array of wildlife and non player characters as well as a living weather system, all of which are in lock step to bring you to certain death.

While the Public PVP servers allow players to engage with others players in combat, anywhere on the map and give you the opportunity to lay waste to one anothers base/territory, the Public PVE servers are a completely different animal serving as a place of people, trade, economy, relationships and community where people have there front doors wide open, use each others maps rooms, share in items and build in peace, only having to deal with the natural elements of the game attempting to thwart there progress. Conan Exiles has been out for quite a while now and I definitely recommend anyone interesting in true base building, survival, a true open world experience, dungeons and the Conan timeline, to come on in give it a try. Especially so if you have a creative spark in designing.
The games overall structure, items, locations, terrain and features were planned well to blend beautifully compared to other games. The game is challenging and fun and truly a long term experience for any true MMO gamer.

The single and best thing about Conan Exiles is that it only gets better with time. There were dark times in the games past and having been active once again now for over 6 months, bringing my total played hours to 1000 hours played as of the date of this post, I can safely say that those dark days are long gone.

There are plenty of little things that continue to plague the game as with any games out there. Here are some of the things Funcom can do to fix quality of life for the game and add improvements to the current system.


Global PVP/PVE Quality of Life Fixes Required:

  1. World terrain and building pieces occasionally let thralls and pets go into them.
  2. Some carpet items on building foundations and ceiling pieces bleed into one another.
  3. All place-ables need to be revisited to reduce the empty invisible space around them to allow things to be placed closer together.
  4. Armor item spelling needs to be rechecked, as an example the standard Royal set, vs the Epic version, the word encumbrance is spelling wrong on one of the sets.
  5. Thralls in close quarter space don’t interact and fight until moved to a more open area. This seems to be a wide spread issue. In dungeons and in open world area where obstructions get in the way of there movement.
  6. Placing building pieces many times brings up a message failed to place. The current quick work around is to switch over to another item to place and back to the original one.
  7. Animal/Thrall kills when playing with friends, mainly the animals, upon death they fly all over the place and the end result of where they are able to be looted, skinned etc. show up in different places for the players. Funny but its time to be fixed.
  8. Purge fights in some areas of where you build your base have a tendency to only spawn 1 or 2 types of purges and the level of the purge also remains the same. Variety and difficulty should be the same for everyone and also random based on the location of the base location. Border locations should share in that variety and difficulty. Border example, Savannah/Highlands Hills.
  9. Map room attuned lights are currently experiencing a long delay from showing up. Waiting approximately 30 seconds or more for the lights to begin appearing when you approach them.
    10 . Elevators when called most times do not move until pressed a second time.
  10. Paintings are placed too far from the walls leaving a gaping visible space behind them.
  11. Thralls/Pet when on follow - When the player attacks something, the Thrall/Pet has the tendency to go towards a different nearby target if one is nearby, instead of the target you are attacking.
  12. Thralls/Pet when on follow - When the player is in combat the thrall pushes the player and the npc as well, messing up the players combos instead of approaching the target from an angle. This results in the player getting hit constantly have to do what the AI doesn’t do.
  13. Thralls placed around bases to protect it always engage nearby enemies however in many cases unless the player is in close proximity the fight with the npc can last forever with no outcome. Once you approach closer the fight shortly ends. This does not occur upon death when a thrall is set to follow. They will continue to fight until there is nothing to fight. These issue seems to be tied to the place/guard function.
  14. Dungeon death in the Black Keep doesn’t provide an option to spawn inside the room that requires the ancient key. Players currently spawn at beds or bed rolls and if with a group, with no way to get back inside to the boss room because they don’t have an ancient key any longer.

Global PVP/PVE New Feature Requests:

  1. Increase item stacks beyond 20 and 100 for flowers like aloe and yellow lotus.

  2. The Clan system
    Currently the clan system is minimal in design and developing it further requires a primer to allow for additional functions and I have an idea that should work within the existing system.
    A new feature - People/Clans that create bases can Name their base and that name would then be registered on that server at that time tied directly to the person that created it. This naming base feature would give you the ability to use it as a designing stepping stone to further deepen the existing clan system to allow for a much greater amount of permissions in clans.
    a) Once a person joins a clan, any named bases that they already own would continue to be owned by that person. The owner would gain the ability to allow permissions of clan members to build. Should that person leave that clan, they continue to own there base but the clan permissions that left from are removed.
    c) Container ownership would need to be individually added to chests, cupboards, boxes, crates, vaults and all station types.
    d) People that are given the permissions to use stations would only get to use the recipes they have learned plus the rare ones that the thrall has. Only the owner would be allowed to remove the existing thrall from the station.
    e) Containers (non stations) would each have a new section for the owner to designate permissions, either to lock it entirely from others, give access to the entire clan or only to specific people. A section within these containers, say 5-10 box spaces based on the size of the container, would be the only designated spaces people with permissions would have access to, the rest of the container they would not be able to add or remove items from.
    f) The addition of permissions for stations and containers designated as public/all access would give people the ability to build small bases for community use as well as within there existing bases.
    g) Ownership must persist

  3. Visible buff timers added for all consumables.

  4. A new and significant reward in completing The Final Quest and removing your bracelet. Perhaps an additional amount of feats and attributes, access to a special weapon, access to a set of armor, A special torch that lights twice the distance. Given that you can do this as many times as you would like, perhaps this can be a rolling reward of obtaining these new benefits.

  5. Thrall new features:
    a) Thralls setup as a store where owners can place items and set prices to the items or give the items away for free. Once combat is detected, normal functions take over.
    b) Thrall Emotes - Give them the ability to pace back and forth near the area you placed them, maybe take there weapon out once in a while and clean it or sharpen it. Once combat is detected, normal functions take over. This same feature should be added to pets.

  6. Glass - Glass is a feature for building pieces that has been a long time request from many people, so much so that mods were created complete with every piece available made in glass. This would give people far more creativity to add glass to building structures.

  7. Baby pet versions - The addition of a specialized fodder to convert pets into the baby versions of them would be a fun addition to the game. These new versions would need to walk around and wander about forcing players to create enclosed environments to protect them from getting lost or killed.

  8. Archer Thralls - Bring back unlimited ammo.

  9. Thrall Entertainers - More options for more dances and the ability to not dance at all.


PVE Specific Quality of Life improvements Requested:

  1. Increase decay timers to allow people to have normal lives with the ability to take a two week vacation without the worry of all of there efforts vanishing. 336 or even 400 hours should be sufficient. Many in the PVE public back this.

Hopefully Funcom will work on adding some of these. If you like these ideas please do me a favor and like the post and share it with others.

I think they need to add Cross Play. It’ll bring in so many players so friends and such don’t have to waste money on an entire console just to play one single game to be able to play with a friend or so. But I think the Devs are just getting lazy with innovations and such. Plus, I’m just gonna keep suggesting it till it happens since it’s 100% possible since other games have done it a year to a few years after release.

@Ninja_Havok I really appreciate all the work you put into this suggestion. I think you have some really greats one in here. I’m not sure if I completely follow/agree with your clan system overall, but I do feel a revamp of how this works is needed. Currently joining and leaving clans can be a messy affair with lots of lost items and hard feelings. Some of that is to be expected it shouldn’t be easy to switch clans. However I do feel the current system could be improved. Regarding glass construction, that would be awesome!
