3.0 Sorcery Megathread

HE IS RISING! How can you not get it??

Jimbo didn’t say he didn’t get it. His point was that they post silly jokes.

Also, that should be “He is risen,” not “rising.” It was an Easter joke.

Is that why the bought the rights to Conan very recently?.. because when I stop caring about something, I spent money ensuring I own the rights to it all. The facts don’t agree with your supposition.

Never underestimate spite.
While this one sincerely doubts this is what is happening…
This one is familiar with those who would set themselves ablaze to singe the eyebrows of those who had the temerity to venture too near.

Having observed excessive lucre being spent on pettier actions, specifically to acquire and hold an IP to prevent another from having it, or because some time in the space future they may want to make a product with… Well it would have been enough to comfortably retire this one to a private island but instead they throw it away on low commitment media, damaging the careers of actors and crew alike on the way… ayesh.

Again, this one does not think that is the case here.

But we must never underestimate the power of petty spite.

Yeah but spite has no profit (physical, emotional, or spiritual) and therefore dumb and pointless and should only reside in children…but there are plenty if children over 20 YO so point taken.

I’m just speculating as I haven’t read any actual Conan novels but I looked up on the wiki and I’m thinking maybe the 3.0 has some story to it. I just saw a lot of the achievements in the game for the Exiled Lands map are actually word for word the titles of some chapters of the Conan novels, and a lot of them are from Conan the Conqueror/The Hour of the Dragon.

So I read some of the other chapter titles and synopsis from those chapters and the overall story is basically some people do a ritual to revive/summon Xaltotun who is an ancient sorcerer from Acheron. Basically that story involves Xaltotun trying to recreate Acheron with sorcery. So maybe the grave matters event was these priests doing rituals to summon an ancient sorcerer like that guy and soon he’ll arrive and us players have to stop him in the new content. So it’s possible while we might not get sorcery of our own to use we have to fight against sorcery like Conan does and some of the new content is probably more events like Grave Matters where we snuff out sorcery stuff across the land and maybe get some unique recipes and stuff.

The only thing I can’t really guess at is what new features or mechanics there would be, if any. Obviously my whole post is speculation but I ain’t got nothing else based on the minimal teasers we’ve gotten.

that’s was not whats the funcom’s Q4 “financial streaming” showed. The game is very much profitable and open soucered to sharings, so, by logic, they want to give a s**t to it.

Do not reply to my thread unless you have something productive to add, thanks.

There are plenty of children well into retirement age.
Spite is a cruel luxury, and success can break a person in ways poverty does not. A sin of ego and affluence in many cases. Simply put, having the resources to burn sometimes emboldens those of petty disposition.
Which, this one must stress again, is most likely not what is happening here.

Siptah was a pretty large DLC and it came with quite a few tweaks to the base game.
It was in production hell for quite awhile. Responses were mixed and steam ratings reflect that.
It also had a hype train.

Perhaps playing things as close to the vest as they are is an effort to avoid another Siptah.
By not telling us what it is, the thought may be, as others have mentioned, to avoid getting hopes up. It’s big, they want hype. But it’s also extremely mysterious and they don’t want expectations to be too grand for fear of backlash.
Painted themselves into a corner on this one.

On a financial level, they should probably have another cultural pack DLC or something else to make m-
Oh, wait, Tencent backing
Not certain how the overlords there run things and how Heavey their hand is felt on the matter.

This one is still trying to reconcile the content release rate and server-pocalypse with a now somewhat antique discussion of the game as part of the games as a service model or a living game. On one hand, a subscriber model is going to be a hard sell here (but it would be the biggest shake up since the game was released), on the other if it brought an update schedule with any rhyme or reason…

@Aramis that makes a lot of sense to me. If you’re right, then you worked it out without even reading any source material.

To be honest a subscription might make my relationship with the game healthier. Don’t know about others. If it continuously cost money, then all the little mechanics designed to keep you logged in would lose their hold a bit. But then again they wouldn’t be needed, and I’d only play when I was actually excited to do so and willing to lay out the money. A lot of griefers and most refreshers would leave, so the game population would go down, but the quality of active players might go up. It’s an interesting idea. Maybe good for the game and the players, but not a very good 21st century business strategy.

The main thing about all of this is actually just that.

The story in Siptah is a after the fact visit of the story in Conan the Cimmerian that deals with, well, Isle of Siptah. And it is actually very close to what would have been someone going there after what happens in the books.

The rest of the stuff has similar tone.

People use to say, and Funcom seem to enable it, that the Exiled Lands is not in the canon of Conan the Cimmerian, but it is in all but name. And Razma even tells you where it is “more or less” when she tells you she might go with Conan.

It is actually all in the books. And the things they say also point to the stories involved. If you dont want to go around hunting and hearing lore, download the devkit and just hear and read it all.

Not much to speculate, it is really simple.

Huh? 2 years old stream? You’ve never played another FC game? They forget very quickly…

So…lets See…

Bleeding Box in Top…

Adult Man Meat in left… Gator Head in Right… Oh My…

What looks like the Letter P.

OMG…

are we getting PP Cutting back in Game! All that talk of PP necklaces back in Beta days. Finally gonna happen!

The blood has filled the thing to 25% that means they have finished the update to 25%. ^^

At that rate, the update won’t be out until December 2024!

It took them 7 months to get to this point (October event 'til now at mid-May, beginning of June).
7 months x 4 (25% each) = too long

All I have to say is. Still no 3.0 and we are almost halfway through the year. Takes way too long for content on this game. And they said they expanded their teams. So what’s the issue? I know people are going to criticize me. For saying what I’m saying, but it’s true. That’s why the population of this game keeps dying because they cannot push content quick enough.

That’s close to halfway. So at the current rate of fill we should be having something by next week.

Incorrect. The game follows the Darkstorm Chronology which sets the timeline between Xuthal of Dusk and A Witch Shall Be Born. The Gem In the Tower isn’t a part of this timeline given it wasn’t written by REH, however the story ends itself in a pretty case closed way where conan goes off to Tortage, setting up for the Pool of the Black Ones to be the next story, as confirmed by the author.

This puts it at least a decade into the future, not already happened. Conan isn’t present on siptah because he hasn’t been there yet.
