Abysmal Remnant gets skewed out of sync

Game mode: Online official
Type of issue: Bug
Server type: PvE-Conflict
Region: US

While fighting the Abysmal Remnant, there is a chance that blocking its attack with a shield will result in an interrupted animation that leaves the Remnant skewed instead of upright. If that happens, the “belly-flop” attack will result in the Remnant either diving under the floor or floating above it.

In both cases, it is impossible to actually hit the Remnant with a melee attack, because the client won’t send anything to the server unless the player can actually strike the client-side hitbox. The server maintains the Remnant in the correct position, because the player cannot walk through the area where the Remnant should be – the player keeps getting thrown back by the server, similar to trying to walk through a door that hasn’t been loaded on the client.

Please provide a step-by-step process of how the bug can be reproduced. The more details you provide us with the easier it will be for us to find and fix the bug:

  1. Approach the Remnant with a one-handed weapon and a shield, while blocking.
  2. Enter the Remnant’s melee distance and let it attack you.
  3. Observe the attacks. If one of them is cut short during the block, pay attention to the Remnant’s orientation.
  4. Wait for the belly-flop attack. If the Remnant was skewed, it will either dive under the floor or float above it.
  5. Try to hit the Remnant and notice that you can’t damage it.
  6. Try to walk through the space where the Remnant should actually be and notice you cannot pass through.
